Wandelgids Walk! Sierra de Aracena | Discovery Walking Guides
Wandelgids Walk! Sierra de Aracena | Discovery Walking Guides
Introducing you to the beautiful region of Sierra de Aracena, this guidebook has 27 detailed walking routes backed by useful information. Every route has 1:40,000 scale colour mapping from Tour & Trail Map, plus GPS Waypoints for pinpoint navigational accuracy. A hundred kilometres northwest of Seville lies a region of truly unspoilt rural Spain. Once a province of Portugal the Sierra de Aracena encapsulates almost everything that we look for as the idyllic walking destination; rural beauty in flora and fauna, breathtaking landscapes, unspoilt towns and villages linked by old donkey trails. All it lacks are high mountains.   The Spanish have known about this isolated region for sometime and arrive at weekends and in mid-summer, but on weekdays and out of season it returns to peaceful tranquility. Few 'outsiders' know of this delightful region and you can be the first to read about it in English. We first discovered the region five years ago, when we thought it too isolated to justify a…

Wandelgids The high mountains of Crete - Kreta | Cicerone
Wandelgids The high mountains of Crete - Kreta | Cicerone
Guidebook to walking and trekking the high mountains of Crete. The largest of the Greek Islands, Crete's mountains provide breathtaking walking and wilderness to this popular island. The routes in this guidebook are graded for difficulty and range from short, easy strolls to challenging, multi-day treks and summit climbs, so there are options for walkers of all abilities.    All the mountain ranges of Crete feature high plains, gorges and ravines, but in the heart of the Lefka Ori there is something else. High above the treeline snow thaws by July to reveal a great circle of massive barren peaks, interspersed with ‘moonscape’ outcrops, or depressions, of sinkholes in black, grey or red rock. This high desert wilderness is seldom visited but covers some 960sqkm.   In central Crete, where the island is at its widest, the huge mass of Psiloritis (Mount Ida) dominates the whole region. Covering about 560sqkm this massif is different in that a single huge, partly scree-surfaced summit ridge…

Wandelgids Walking on Uist and Barra - Schotland | Cicerone
Wandelgids Walking on Uist and Barra - Schotland | Cicerone
This guide offers 40 varied and graded walking routes on the unique 100km cluster of islands that make up Uist and Barra. From short, flat beach walks beside crystal clear waters to long excursions across wild mountainous terrain, the routes visit all the major islands from Berneray to Vatersay but also those smaller and offshore such as Eriskay and Mingulay. Walking across these landscapes, especially the hill country, gives a sense of remoteness and peaceful solitude that cannot be found in the mainland's National Parks or on the Munros busy with peak baggers. Despite a relatively narrow area, Uist and Barra's diverse islands offer a contrasting walking terrain and many ancient historic sites such as chambered cairns and standing stones as well as lots of local wildlife. Upland areas are home to red deer and golden and white-tailed eagles, while along the coast grey seals are common and thousands of birds set up their breeding grounds in the machair. Daily flights between Glasgow and…

Productomschrijving

Uitgebreide wandelgids van dit deel van Gran Canaria: goede beschrijvingen, veel keuze, kaarten wat minder goed.   Guidebook describing 45 day walks on Gran Canaria, generally averaging 10 to 12km each. A long-distance coast-to-coast route on the GR131 is included, and shorter walks can be linked to form longer itineraries. One of the larger Canary Islands, Gran Canaria is a popular destination but offers many peaceful, rural areas perfect for walking.   Seasons High summer is popular, but too hot for walking. Good winter walking is possible, with only a very rare chance of snow on high mountains. Spring is ideal and autumn is tolerable.   Centres Most people stay in the city or resorts - Las Palmas, Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés - but there are quieter alternatives.   Difficulty Routes vary from short and easy to long and arduous. Many paths are rough and stony, so good footwear is required. The highest mountains are sometimes covered by low cloud, but sun protection will be needed more than waterproofs. Plenty of water should be carried in some arid places.   Must See Rugged, well-settled uplands dominated by towers of rock - Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga. Long-distance coast to coast route. Deep and rugged barrancos. Scenery from mountains to extensive pine and laurisilva forests, with semi-desert and amazing cliff coastlines. Peaceful and charming rural locations, despite being in one of the world's most popular holiday spots.
