La Belle Province is historically rich, linguistically unique in North America, and attractive for tourism. It is a very large area of land, forcing us to portray the northern portion at a different scale than the more populated southern portion. The map extends to Ottawa in the west and includes most of New Brunswick in the east, as well as all the border areas with the USA to the south. Due to the size of Quebec, the focus of this map is concentrated on providing road information to get around, parks and geographic features, and symbols portraying ski resort areas, urban areas, and road numbers. ITMB is pleased to release two more state maps, this time of Montana on one side, and adjacent Idaho on the other side. Montana prides itself on being the ‘blue sky’ state. Due to its high elevation, the sky does appear to be a darker shade of blue than is common in areas closer to the ocean. The state is lightly populated, so much of its attractiveness rests with natural features, such as Glacier National Park on the Canadian border, and Yellowstone National Park on the Wyoming border. The state is also perfect camping country, and our map includes dozens of authorized campsites. It also includes the national heritage site of Little Big Horn, where Lt. Colonel Custer and the US 7th Cavalry were massacred after foolishly attacking a vastly larger encampment of Sioux and Cheyenne first nations people under the leadership of Sitting Bull. To me, the north side is the most interesting, covering the portion of Laos from Vientiane, the capital, to the Chinese border. Detailed inset maps of Vientiane and Louang Prabang, the temple city, are included on this side, as are bits of both Thailand and Vietnam. The south portion fills the other side of the sheet, including a goodly portion of Vietnam, showing all border crossings. Much of Thailand has had to be obscured, unfortunately, to make room for the place names index, but the immediate border areas are shown, including the rail line south from Vientiane. The Andes mountain chain is the southern extension of the Sierra Nevada chain through Mexico and Central America, which is, in turn the southern extension of the Rocky Mountain chain from Alaska to the Mexican border. The Andes is a magnificent series of high mountains that enters Colombia and spreads southwards through Ecuador and Peru all the way to southern Patagonia. The map is double-sided, with the Northern Andes on one side and the other side divided into two side-by-side maps portraying the Central Andes and the Southern Andes. As technology improves, we are able to produce more detailed maps than was previously possible. Such is the case with Ireland, a part of the world consisting of two countries divided by religion and history. Preparing a map of Ireland as a double-sided map means cutting the island into two geographic portions. Side 1 covers the northern half. This includes the portion known as Northern Ireland, or Ulster, and a fair portion of the Republic of Ireland, or Eire; essentially everything north of Dublin and west to Counties Mayo and Galway. Side 2 covers the southern half of the island from just north of Dublin to the outer tips of County Kerry. It also includes a nice inset map of central Dublin. Naturally, all motorways and roads are included, as are touristic attractions, camping/caravan sites, ferry terminals, and Top Attractions. The map's artwork is completely new and different from the previous edition, and much more in keeping with ITMB's style for Europe. ITMB, after only thirty years on the go, finally gets around to publishing a map of Canada. When we first started mapping, there was a pressing need for good maps of Central and South America, then of Africa, then etc etc and we never found time to concentrate on our own country until fairly recently. This map was prepared by Natural Resources Canada and is, as a result, as accurate a map as one could hope to have. We are very proud of it, and very pleased to be able to use such top-rate cartography. The map covers all of the land mass of Canada, from its southernmost point to the top of Ellesmere Island and from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific.
