This is actually our second attempt at mapping the western portion of Canada; the first covered everything from northwestern Ontario to the Pacific Ocean and, while it was an excellent map, the scale that such a huge area covered necessitated severe problems. In this version, all of British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon have been mapped from fresh digital data and presented at 1:1.4T scale. This would have been impossible when we prepared the first map. The Northwest Territories portion had to be compressed in two ways; first, the scale is 1:2M; second, only the portion with roads is shown. This is still an extremely large area. One has to consider the actual size of Canada when designing a map. Most countries in Europe would fit into this area, which only covers 20% of Canada.     Double-sided map of Newfoundland and Labrador Provinces at 1:800,000 and 1:1,300,000 respectively, part of a series of maps of Canadian provinces from the Vancouver-based ITMB, with topography presented by altitude colouring rather than by relief shading. Road and rail networks are shown on a clear base with numerous national or regional parks and wildlife reserves prominently marked. The Trans Canada Trail is prominently indicated; symbols highlight various places of interest, sport and recreational facilities, etc. National, provincial and time zone boundaries are displayed. The map has a latitude and longitude grid at intervals of 1º and an index of localities. Historical information is given on the outer edges of the map, with a small box showing the timeline of the provinces, dating back to the 11th century. Also included are plans of Conception bay South and St. John’s, indicating one-way streets, points of interest, and various facilities.

ITMB, after only thirty years on the go, finally gets around to publishing a map of Canada. When we first started mapping, there was a pressing need for good maps of Central and South America, then of Africa, then etc etc and we never found time to concentrate on our own country until fairly recently. This map was prepared by Natural Resources Canada and is, as a result, as accurate a map as one could hope to have. We are very proud of it, and very pleased to be able to use such top-rate cartography. The map covers all of the land mass of Canada, from its southernmost point to the top of Ellesmere Island and from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific. BC is not changing particularly quickly at the moment, due to the economic recession, but tens of thousands of people continue to migrate to the province each year, and its population is expected to double over the next twenty years. Thanks to its enormous size, huge tracts of land have been set aside for wilderness preservation, and yet the province boasts a road and rail network that would be the envy of smaller countries. The scenery tends to be described in superlative terms. Since I live her, I'll avoid the cliches, and content myself by saying that not only is this map superlative, we've reduced the retail price, so it is much more affordable both in America and overseas. The map divides the country north/south, approximately along the line between the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huyahuash, with very little overlap between the two sides. Topography is very effectively presented by altitude colouring, with spot heights and additional graphics for swamps and marshland, glaciers and volcanos.     The far north of Canada, north of 60 degrees, consists of three territories; the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Until now, there has never been a proper map of the territory that was carved off from the NWT a quarter century ago. With only 30,000 people and a scattering of settlements, Nunavut is larger than western Europe in area. This map took us years to prepare, using 1:250,000 government topo maps as a base and tracing thousands of little lakes. The traditional passageway of the fabled Northwest Passage is also shown. The most northerly civilian community in the world is on the map – Grise Bay, as well as Alert, the most remote place on earth. Originally, the NWT covered all of northwestern North America west of the Louisiana Purchase and the Loyalist colonies, and north of the Spanish provinces (essentially north of current day Sactamento). Northern Ontario, on the other side of the map, occupies the bulk of the land area of the province, and is dominated by the Canadian Shield (a pre-Cambrian rock formation that is the oldest land on earth, rich in mineral wealth). The North is dominated by recreational activities, wilderness adventures, and mining tours. Ontario also has ports for ocean-going ships in Lake Superior and on James Bay. Very few Canadians have ever been to Polar Bear Provincial Park in the NE. Printed on paper, double-sided.

    Double-sided map of Ontario, part of a series of maps of Canadian provinces from the Vancouver-based ITMB, with topography presented by altitude colouring rather than by relief shading. The map divides the province north-south, showing on one side the southern part 1:900,000, and on the reverse northern Ontario at 1:1,500,000.

    Topography is indicated by altitude colouring, with spot heights plus graphics for marshlands. Plenty of rivers and lakes are shown, with the larger ones also named. Numerous national parks or provincial protected areas are highlighted and Indian reservations are marked.

    The map shows the province’s road and rail networks, also indicating local airports in remote areas. Symbols highlight campsites, skiing areas, etc. The map has a latitude and longitude grid at intervals of 1º and is indexed
