Turkey is a fascinating country; so much potential, and seemingly unable to focus on progress as opposed to ideology. Touristically, the country is quite safe, but internal politics are as divided here as in Egypt (and seemingly every Muslim country) between secularists (if it is proper to call them that) who want a 'normal' country with a division between secular and religious affairs and those wanting a more traditional religious society where religious values shape the society. Our first edition sold out in a little more than a year, which is pretty amazing in itself, and we have made major improvements to this edition to maintain its popularity. The biggest change is that we have more strongly emphasized the major road network, as most visitors stay on the well-travelled routes around the country, rather than taking back roads to small villages. Turkey is a big country. Most visitors concentrate on Istanbul and the Izmir Coast, which is a shame as there are so many other interesting parts of the country to visit. This map covers the western third of the country as a double-sided map, covering from the Greek/Bulgarian border south to the Mediterranean and east to Eregli and Antalya in the east. Naturally, at a better scale, roads and road conditions can be shown to better advantage, and the ferry routes from Istanbul make more sense. The topography is now showing as contouring more easily, and we have been able to add the next layer of villages. The scale is still not appropriate for showing minor roads and tracks, but we have included as many as we feel we can. The map is printed on durable plastic paper, so will stand up to the rigours of travel quite well. Covering the central portions of Turkey and especially the popular Cappadocia region. Turkey itself is a fascinating country. This map covers the portion from the Mediterranean coast all the way to Syria and north to the Black Sea port of Samsun. This part of Turkey is somewat less sophisticated than the western coastal cities and Istanbul, but it evokes memories of the many e,pires that have traversed the region. Cappadochia was created centuries ago by local people fearing the hordes of invaders that periodically appeared on the horizon and secreted themselves in soft stone caves carved in an inhospitable part of the country. Today, this is one of Turkey's touristic attractions, but the map is much more than that, this is detailed road map to explore an exciting part of the world.

This is a completely new map, using original ITMB artwork (the previous edition was licenced from a British firm). It is a double-sided (east half/west half) map with good inset maps of Kathmandu and of its surrounding valley, excellent hypsometry, and as detailed a rendering of the roads as has been possible. The civil unrest that beset this lovely country is now a thing of the past, and Nepal is enjoying a well-deserved touristic boom. We are always pleased to announce the release of a new title. The Straits of Gibraltar, as this map should be named is historically significant as the crossing point between Europe and North Africa and, more recently, as the guardian of the Mediterranean. It is now moving into a new era – tourism. The city/colony of Gibraltar itself is well worth a visit, and a detailed map is provided. The Spanish city/colony on the North African coast is equally interesting and is also shown, as is Tangier and a good stretch of the Moroccan north coast. This map is printed single-sided, on paper.

IThe large island off the east coast of Africa is Madagascar. The actual name of the country is the Malagasy Republic, but the public is much more likely to know the country by its island name, so we call our map by the island’s name, rather than using the country name. Makes sense to us! Regardless, this is a major touristic destination. The double-sided map covers the island in great detail, with an inset map of the capital city, Antananarivo. As with other ITMB maps, this one includes a listing of ‘must see’ attractions, such as Tsingy National Park and the famous Lemur’s Park. The island also has a regular surface route to the Comoro Islands, which are also included on this map. Indonesia is a huge and varied country of many islands and many cultures. The Javanese dominate the country. Not only is the island centrally located, but the rich soil and hard-working people has turned the island into the economic powerhouse driving the country’s economy. Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, is located on the island’s north shore, and is the subject of a separate ITM map. This map concentrates on the island’s many charms: the temples of Yogyakarta, the colonial architecture of Surabaya, and the rustic charm of mountainous East Java. The map abounds in insets, including central Jakarta at 1:25 000, but also Cirebon, Bandung, and Solo, Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Malang, and Yoga to Prambanan at 1:90,000, and the Dieng Plateau at 1:35,000. The famous island of Krakatoa is also included. This map is double-sided (east/west). Bermuda is a lovely mid-Atlantic island far off the coast of South Carolina. It is full of colonial architecture and an ‘island’ way of life. Tourism is a key ingredient of the colony’s lifeblood and the island is very popular with cruise ships. There is ample accommodation for longer-term visitors, good roads, and much history. The airport was built by the US Navy during WW2 and is still a US Naval Air Station, but shares the runway with civil aviation. The map includes an excellent inset of St. George’s, which still has its stocks close to the town hall, and another of Hamilton, the capital. This is where most cruise ships dock. For those with the time, the map shows the Railway Trail along the former route of the island’s now-defunct rail line.
