England is so incredibly rich in heritage and scenic attractions that it is extremely difficult to portray the country as a map of the entire entity. As a result, England lends itself nicely to be divided into a central/northern portion and a southern portion. To fit areas as diverse as Cornwall and Norwich on one sheet, one needs to have a vertical frame, with Devon/Cornwall up to the top of Wales on one side and Wiltshire to Kent up to York (admittedly, not normally considered to be part of 'southern', but vertically, that's what happens.     As technology improves, we are able to produce more detailed maps than was previously possible. Such is the case with Ireland, a part of the world consisting of two countries divided by religion and history. Preparing a map of Ireland as a double-sided map means cutting the island into two geographic portions. Side 1 covers the northern half. This includes the portion known as Northern Ireland, or Ulster, and a fair portion of the Republic of Ireland, or Eire; essentially everything north of Dublin and west to Counties Mayo and Galway. Side 2 covers the southern half of the island from just north of Dublin to the outer tips of County Kerry. It also includes a nice inset map of central Dublin. Naturally, all motorways and roads are included, as are touristic attractions, camping/caravan sites, ferry terminals, and Top Attractions. This is a very detailed travel map of the island, printed on waterproof paper for durability. We had great fun driving around Ireland researching this map. It…

The best-known portion is the part just north and west of Vancouver, known as the Sunshine Coast. The rugged Coast Mountain Range makes road-building impractical for much of the interior, so communities such as Gibsons, Sechelt, and Powell River are joined together by Highway 101 and by ferries. Many Fiords take kayakers deep into pristine wilderness areas, and former logging roads are now commonly used for wilderness hikes. The famous Strait of Georgia, used by cruise ships to Alaska, cuts through the middle of the map, with the largely unpopulated and wild Bute Inlet leading TO Waddington Glacier and the vast Homathko Icefield. Side 2 of the map covers southwestern BC, including all of Vancouver Island and the southern interior as far as Nelson and north to 100 Mile House.     ITMB, being based in Vancouver, BC, understandably has a local/regional market for our map line. We have a map of Western Canada, as well as an atlas, a very nice map of BC itself, a map of the south half of BC, and a map of part of BC combined with Washington State. What we did not have, until now, was a map covering the most touristically-visited part of all of Canada – namely, the southern halves of both British Columbia and its neighbour, Alberta, with a small amount of Washington State, Idaho, and Montana (to assist those heading north and needing to know about border crossings). Therefore, ITMB is pleased to announce the release of Southern BC and Alberta. Side One covers BC from the US border (with a carry-on to Seattle) north to Prince George and east to the Alberta border, with a carry-on to Calgary. The city is squeezed in between mountain ranges and, the entire city stretches from north (on the right-hand side of the map) to the south. The "bottom" of the map is, actually the eastern portion. A regional inset map clarifies the situation. The street network is clearly shown, along with the rapid line bus way and the city's Metro. The Old Town is perhaps the most interesting portion of the city for visitors and is on the left-hand portion of the map. In terms of cities, Cincinnati is at the bottom left of the sheet and Richmond at the bottom right, with Detroit at upper left and Albany at upper right. The country is so large that we started mapping it as a series of regional maps years ago. The Gulf Cost extends from Brownsville, Texas through Vera Cruz to the Yucatan Peninsula. Due to the shape of the region, all of Belize and about half of Guatemala is included, but the focus is on the many attractions of the eastern Gulf coast of Mexico. Side 1 cover the northern coastal regions, going inland as far as Monterrey, Zacatecas, Morelia, and Mexico City. Side 2 shows the Gulf Coast from Tampico to Carmen, then on to Merida, Cancun, and the southern tip of Belize. By the shape of this part of Mexico, the Pacific Coast, from the Guatemalan border westwards past Acapulco is also shown. In one sense, this is a brand new map, in that the artwork is all brand new. In another sense, it is our map of Hokkaid re-worked into a more marketable format. In any case, it is a very much-needed sectional map of that portion of Japan from Tokyo northwards. Hokkaido is actually one of the most interesting parts of Japan to visit. The island was opened to settlement only after the Ameicans forced Japan to allow contacts with foreign countries in 1868, thanks to Admiral Peary and Gunboat Diplomacy. Hokkaido has been relatively untouched by Japan’s rush to economic dominance, so is the country’s skiing capital in winter and the part of Japan most similar to America. The Andes mountain chain is the southern extension of the Sierra Nevada chain through Mexico and Central America, which is, in turn the southern extension of the Rocky Mountain chain from Alaska to the Mexican border. The Andes is a magnificent series of high mountains that enters Colombia and spreads southwards through Ecuador and Peru all the way to southern Patagonia. The map is double-sided, with the Northern Andes on one side and the other side divided into two side-by-side maps portraying the Central Andes and the Southern Andes. Thus, the map coverage focuses on the Andes themselves, rather than on all of South America. All of Colombia and Peru are shown, most of Bolivia, all of Chile, and the Patagonian portion of Argentina except for the southern portion of Tierra del Fuego. The importance of this map is that it focuses on the highland areas of the continent, where much of the population lives. Bogota, Medellin, Quito, Lima, Arequipa, La Paz, Santiago, Talca, and Punta Arenas are all located along the spine of the Andes. So are the Torres del Paine peaks, the Montt Glacier, and numerous volcanoes, touristic sites, and twisting mountain roads.
