In one sense, this is a brand new map, in that the artwork is all brand new. In another sense, it is our map of Hokkaid re-worked into a more marketable format. In any case, it is a very much-needed sectional map of that portion of Japan from Tokyo northwards. Hokkaido is actually one of the most interesting parts of Japan to visit. The island was opened to settlement only after the Ameicans forced Japan to allow contacts with foreign countries in 1868, thanks to Admiral Peary and Gunboat Diplomacy. Hokkaido has been relatively untouched by Japan’s rush to economic dominance, so is the country’s skiing capital in winter and the part of Japan most similar to America. An inset map of Sapporo is included. The other side shows the main island of the country from Nagoya and Toyama (which are considerably west of Tokyo)…

United States of America (USA) Travel Reference Map has been mapped before, but the USA is a huge country, extremely developed, and almost impossible to show on a map without over-simplification. Most commercial maps use small sheets of paper and print single-sided, making it impossible to show this vast country to advantage. Well, Lan’s been hard at work developing a ‘proper’ traveller’s aid to navigating around the USA, and here it is. We printed it on an exceptionally large sheet of paper, 39” tall by 54” wide (our normal printing size is 27”x39”). To do this, we merged our four existing databases into one, then split them so that the west side is on one side and the east side on the other. Although these countries are not geographically significant in relation to their neighbours, they are enormously wealthy, thanks to oil, and have aspirations of grandeur. Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup of soccer in November 2022. This is significant. Qatar, as a destination country, is now 'on the map'. Its capital, Doha, is quite well developed, with three Metro subway lines, motorways, and a sophisticated city centre dominated by superb high-rise architecture. This is a new title for ITMB, providing detailed coverage of almost all of what most of us consider to be the Scandinavian countries. Only the southernmost portions of Denmark had to be left off. The map is double-sided, with Denmark and most of Norway and Sweden on one side and their balances and Finland on the reverse side. The road network, particularly the motorways and A-type roads shown up very well. Secondary roads show well and also are easy to see. Rail lines are present as well as ferry routes, of which there are many. The area of Scandinavia is so large in the European context that little attention has been paid to the region. When mapping a large area such as this is, it is difficult to show every detail. We have done our best and included all world heritage sites, major churches, castles, some campsites, and as many touristic attractions as could be fitted…

ITMB, after only thirty years on the go, finally gets around to publishing a map of Canada. When we first started mapping, there was a pressing need for good maps of Central and South America, then of Africa, then etc etc and we never found time to concentrate on our own country until fairly recently. This map was prepared by Natural Resources Canada and is, as a result, as accurate a map as one could hope to have. We are very proud of it, and very pleased to be able to use such top-rate cartography. The map covers all of the land mass of Canada, from its southernmost point to the top of Ellesmere Island and from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific. It’s an excellent map, but I’m going to give one proviso. Canada is the second-largest country on the face of the planet and there is no way that a single-sided sheet can portray …

Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken   We're introducing a map of the US Southwest States, notably most of California and Nevada, Arizona, most of Utah, and the western third of New Mexico and Colorado. Our regional series is at 1:1M scale. This results in instances where the name of the map may differ from the common perception. In US parlance, the 'Southwest' is often thought to be Arizona and New Mexico, whereas in reality it is southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. If one includes New Mexico, the square sheet of paper has to go so far north that one ends up including Denver. This is our compromise and we'll figure out how to deal with Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma a bit further down the line. Upon a peaceful transition to independence as Botswana, it has evolved into a democratic and peaceful country. Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodeisa, is a failed state, although potentially, Zimbabwe could dominate tourism if governmental affairs were orderly. Brazil, or more properly, Brasil, is a difficult country to map as a country, in that most of the developed areas are in the relatively small extreme south of the country. The vast region of the Amazon Basin is lightly populated and is not easy to access. Our solution has been to portray the south portion on one side at a detailed scale, to enable such locations as Rio and Sao Paulo a better scale to help travellers, while mapping the north at a respectable but more limited scale on the That said, one still needs both sides of the map, as Brasilia, the capital, falls on the north side other side of the sheet. I should also note that roads north of Brasilia tend to be less well-paved than those in the south. The  shape of the country also presents mapping difficulties, in that little room is available for inset map…

    This is a new title for ITMB, in that it is the first time we have mapped the State of Washington. The actual area of the map includes Portland and northern Oregon and Vancouver and the border area with the USA. A small portion of Idaho is also shown. Wilderness campsites, parks such as Rainier, Olympic, and Baker, are shown. Seattle as a city, stretches far beyond the confines of a practical map in that it stretches from Everett to Tacoma. Our map covers from the University in the north to the Beacon Hill neighbourhood in the south and from the waterfront to Lake Washington. An inset map of the greater region is included. The rapid transit line is also included on the map and on the back cover. The reverse side of the sheet shows all the roads of Washington State in excellent Olympic, and Baker, state parks, touristic sites, beaches, ferry routes, native reserves, motorways, and even the ill-fated Hanford nuclear site are included.
