Obviously, this is a thriving market. In conjunction with several cruise ship lines, we have prepared a map of the South Pacific Ocean, which extends southwards from Hawai'i to the southern tip of New Zealand and eastwards from central Australia/Papua New Guinea to the Pitcairn Islands. Thus, it does not include the popular South East Asia and China coast routes. We think this has to change at a time when 25,000,000 people are travelling by cruise ships. At the same time, we must keep coverage area relevant for those end users of the artwork. In one sense, this is a brand new map, in that the artwork is all brand new. In another sense, it is our map of Hokkaid re-worked into a more marketable format. In any case, it is a very much-needed sectional map of that portion of Japan from Tokyo northwards. Hokkaido is actually one of the most interesting parts of Japan to visit. The island was opened to settlement only after the Ameicans forced Japan to allow contacts with foreign countries in 1868, thanks to Admiral Peary and Gunboat Diplomacy. Hokkaido has been relatively untouched by Japan’s rush to economic dominance, so is the country’s skiing capital in winter and the part of Japan most similar to America. We also have a separate map of Havana.     Great Britain, by its shape, is difficult to map. The population is dense, the road network intense, and the coastline convoluted. A map of the British Isles shows only the major features. Sectional maps of just England, or Just Wales, make little sense, due to the geographic shape of the island kingdom. Scotland also needs more than one map to show its treasures in sufficient detail. ITMB previously issued Scotland Central and South, and now extends its coverage at 1:300,000 to the sparsely-populated highlands and the isolated Western, Orkney, and Shetland island archipelagos that are usually shrunk to insignificance on most maps, as insets. This double-sided map covers the area from Loch Lochy south of Invergarry to John O’Groats in the north, and from the Western islands of Uist and Lewis to the Moray Firth and Craigellachie in the east.     ITMB, being based in Vancouver, BC, understandably has a local/regional market for our map line. We have a map of Western Canada, as well as an atlas, a very nice map of BC itself, a map of the south half of BC, and a map of part of BC combined with Washington State. What we did not have, until now, was a map covering the most touristically-visited part of all of Canada – namely, the southern halves of both British Columbia and its neighbour, Alberta, with a small amount of Washington State, Idaho, and Montana (to assist those heading north and needing to know about border crossings). Therefore, ITMB is pleased to announce the release of Southern BC and Alberta. Side One covers BC from the US border (with a carry-on to Seattle) north to Prince George and east to the Alberta border, with a carry-on to Calgary. The map divides the country north/south, approximately along the line between the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huyahuash, with very little overlap between the two sides. Topography is very effectively presented by altitude colouring, with spot heights and additional graphics for swamps and marshland, glaciers and volcanos.     Australia is a very large country. It is also very unevenly populated, with most of the people living close to the eastern coast. Brisbane is the second-largest city in Australia, and the preferred landing spot for most international flights. This makes Brisbane an attractive point of entry to Australia for visitors. The city has several attractions, which are noted on the map, several transit lines, also noted, and an interesting ferry boat system along the Brisbane River. The city is also the capital of Queensland, which occupies the north-east quarter of the continent and fills the second side of the map. Our map of the state stretches from the northern tip of Cape York to beyond the southern boundary of the state to just south of Sydney, in New South Wales. Northern and western India on a double-sided, indexed map from ITMB, providing on each side useful coverage of some of the country’s most visited areas. Each side of the map has a separate index of localities. The northern side is centred on Delhi and extends north to the Line of Control dividing Jammu and Kashmir. Coverage east along the Ganges extends beyond Varanasi; west to Jodhour, the outskirts of Ahmadabad and to Vadodara (Baroda); and south to Nagpur, the geographical centre of India. The western side of the map extends from Delhi to Bangalore and Mysore, and inland beyond Hyderabad, so includes Mumbai and Goa. The map has altitude colouring (in feet) and shows the country’s road and rail networks and local airports. Symbols highlight various places of interest including historic or scenic sites, hill stations, temples and other religious buildings, castles and forts, national parks and wildlife reserves, beaches, boating and rafting facilities, etc. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at intervals of 2°. Each side of the map has a separate index of place names.
