This is our third edition of this country and each one keeps getting better. We can’t justify sending a researcher into a combat zone to gather data, but we are thankful to those aid workers and soldiers who have added to our information base and helped make this map more useful. The Bahamas is one of the most touristic Caribbean island countries, with huge resort complexes in Nassau and in Freeport. We visited Grand Bahama Island earlier this month and can attest to the friendliness of the people and the attractiveness of the island. This map shows all of the many islands that comprise The Bahamas. There isn’t a lot of contouring, as the country’s highest point is only 36 feet above sea level. An inset map expanding the island of New Providence, and separate inset maps of Nassau and of Freeport, are included. The map is double-sided, east half-west half, printed on waterproof paper for durability.

Peru at 1:1,500,000 on a double-sided, waterproof and tear-resistant, indexed map from ITMB, with large, clear street plans of central Lima and Cusco, highlighting accommodation, places of interest and various facilities. The map divides the country north/south, approximately along the line between the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huyahuash, with very little overlap between the two sides. Topography is very effectively presented by altitude colouring, with spot heights and additional graphics for swamps and marshland, glaciers and volcanos. The map shows the country’s road network distinguishing between all-weather and seasonable roads and indicates driving distances on main routes. This is a completely new map, using original ITMB artwork (the previous edition was licenced from a British firm). It is a double-sided (east half/west half) map with good inset maps of Kathmandu and of its surrounding valley, excellent hypsometry, and as detailed a rendering of the roads as has been possible. The civil unrest that beset this lovely country is now a thing of the past, and Nepal is enjoying a well-deserved touristic boom. Brazil, or more properly, Brasil, is a difficult country to map as a country, in that most of the developed areas are in the relatively small extreme south of the country. The vast region of the Amazon Basin is lightly populated and is not easy to access. Our solution has been to portray the south portion on one side at a detailed scale, to enable such locations as Rio and Sao Paulo a better scale to help travellers, while mapping the north at a respectable but more limited scale on the That said, one still needs both sides of the map, as Brasilia, the capital, falls on the north side other side of the sheet. I should also note that roads north of Brasilia tend to be less well-paved than those in the south.
