St, David’s must be one of the smallest and loveliest cathedrals in the world, and Tintern Abbey ruins among the most poignant anywhere. This is a brilliant map of both England and Wales, showing the entire 'country' in a double-sided format. The place names index is formidable, but England in particular is a series of little villages, so it has been very difficult to decide what to include and what to leave out. This map is showing motorways, divided carriageways, all A & B highways, railway lines, airports, historic sites and touristic attractions, parks and gardens, and just about everything that we could fit on to the page to provide users with a detailed, usable map. We have been able to fit all of southern England/Wales as far north as Chester/Lincoln on side A and with a little overlap, from those cities north to the well over the Scottish border, up to Perth/Dundee filling side B. Most visitors to the UK fly into one of London's four airports and combine a visit to the city with an opportunity to travel to various destinations within striking distance of London. England is so incredibly rich in heritage and scenic attractions that it is extremely difficult to portray the country as a map of the entire entity. As a result, England lends itself nicely to be divided into a central/northern portion and a southern portion. To fit areas as diverse as Cornwall and Norwich on one sheet, one needs to have a vertical frame, with Devon/Cornwall up to the top of Wales on one side and Wiltshire to Kent up to York (admittedly, not normally considered to be part of 'southern', but vertically, that's what happens. Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken   We're introducing a map of the US Southwest States, notably most of California and Nevada, Arizona, most of Utah, and the western third of New Mexico and Colorado. Our regional series is at 1:1M scale. This results in instances where the name of the map may differ from the common perception. In US parlance, the 'Southwest' is often thought to be Arizona and New Mexico, whereas in reality it is southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. If one includes New Mexico, the square sheet of paper has to go so far north that one ends up including Denver. This is our compromise and we'll figure out how to deal with Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma a bit further down the line. ITMB finds the UK to be a never-ending source of maps needing to be prepared, such as this one of Cardiff and Wales. Cardiff is the capital of Wales, and is also an international access point to the UK; a map seems desirable. The city is based at the mouth of the River Taff, with most touristic points being concentrated in the harbour area, the city centre, and a concentration of eateries along Albany Road. Cardiff is shaped by two parallel motorways; the A4232close to the waterfront, and the A48 near the northern extremities. Both are included in our map, which also shows historic sites, hotels, and tourist amenities.     The shape of the UK makes it difficult to map logically. The term South East, within crowded England, is generally more restrictive than is appropriate for a map. Our definition of SE is from the English Channel north to the northern tip of East Anglia and west to Portsmouth/Reading/Peterborough. This occupies side one of the sheet. Side two consists of that complex portion of England generally called ‘The Midlands’ stretching from Cambridge/Peterborough west to the Welsh border and from Luton/Gloucester north to Manchester/Grimsby. London is, of course, prominent, but only as a main roads map. This is the most recent sectional map of the UK that ITMB has published, and was necessitated by the realization that, to see England properly, one needs a detailed enough map to show rail lines, motorways, A-type highways and B-type secondary roads, but also the tertiary level of road joining villages. The map has two covers so can be marketed either as a USA map title or a Canadian title. The front side covers all of Washington State, with a bit of Oregon and Idaho, and has a decent-sized inset map of downtown Seattle. The reverse side covers much-larger British Columbia - at least a portion of it, including all of Vancouver Island, all the roads from Vancouver eastwards to the Rockies and north to Kamloops, and hundreds of wilderness campsites in the interior. We have visited Wales on several occasions and find that the attractions are so numerous that we could never see them all. There are too many castles to count, but some of the best preserved in the British Isles are in Wales, notable Caernarfon, but nearby Harlech is a World Heritage Site. St, David’s must be one of the smallest and loveliest cathedrals in the world, and Tintern Abbey ruins among the most poignant anywhere. This map is double-sided, with Wales on one side and the West Country (southwest England) graces the other side. Excellent coverage of Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset is provided, along with a fair portion of Dorset and Wiltshire. The eastern extreme of the map is Salisbury/Swindon, so a lot of ground is still being covered. The peculiar way that motorways are designated means that ‘true’ motorways are shown in blue while equally good non-motorways are in green casing, with not a tinker’s difference between them. My own favorite place is Mousehole, on Mount’s Bay; Tintagel ranks a close second. The map is loaded with touristic attractions; both well-known and more local. For something really unusual, visit Hay-on-Wye, west of Hereford. It is actually in England, smack on the border, and its claim to fame is that it is the world’s largest concentration of bookstores – an amazing place! This was obviously a fun map to make, as it includes so many ‘favorite’ places. This map will be invaluable for anyone visiting Wales!
