Today, Texas is the second largest State in the union (after Alaska), and is the only State to have previously been an independent country. It also includes the oldest urban area in the USA, Presidio, founded by the Spaniards to guard the ford over the Rio Grande. Because of its shape, and the natural proximity of the State of Oklahoma along its northern edge, combining the two States just made sense. Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken   We're introducing a map of the US Southwest States, notably most of California and Nevada, Arizona, most of Utah, and the western third of New Mexico and Colorado. Our regional series is at 1:1M scale. This results in instances where the name of the map may differ from the common perception. In US parlance, the 'Southwest' is often thought to be Arizona and New Mexico, whereas in reality it is southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. If one includes New Mexico, the square sheet of paper has to go so far north that one ends up including Denver. This is our compromise and we'll figure out how to deal with Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma a bit further down the line. The northern mountain states of the USA are now the most recent portion of ITMB’s re-mapping of the USA for travel. We had to include a small portion of Washington State and Oregon, due to the shape of Idaho, but the double-sided sheet covers the three states with very little room left over. Side 1 stretches from the Alberta border to Salt Lake City, in Utah, and from west of Spokane to Helena, MT. The 2nd side covers from the Canadian border south to Cheyanne, and is essentially a map of Montana and Wyoming. As such, this is the most detailed map of this region of the USA ever published, and pretty much completes our mapping of the western half of the continental USA. We have also added a new feature – a list of the most popular sites – for those with limited time, showing such well-known features as Glacier National Park and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. This is a brand new title for ITMB. Denver, the ‘mile-high’ city on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, is a vibrant, fairly modern city. It is the state capital, and the gold-coated dome of the legislative building highlights the wealth and strength of the state. The Denver Zoo is becoming one of the great attractions of the city, as are the Center for Performing Arts and the Museum of Science and Nature. Larimer Square is the focal point for entertainment, and Coors Field for sports. Our map shows a wide-ranging number of accommodations and eateries, and notes all points of interest. The State of Colorado map fills the reverse side of the sheet and, due to the positioning of the state’s boundaries, nicely fills the 40x28 sheet size of the map.     Europe is dotted with mini-states that exist solely for historic reasons but are fiercely independent. Liechtenstein, surrounded by Switzerland on its west and south and Austria on its other borders, is such a state. It is larger and more diverse than many imagine and is quite a popular ski resort region. Side 1 is a detailed map of the principality, framed on the west by the Rhine River and a bit of Switzerland and on the east by Austria. Most development occurs in the Rhine Valley in a north-south direction, dominated by the capital city of Vaduz. There are five access points from Switzerland across the Rhine, one from the south, and two from Austria in the north. The ski haven of Malbun is prominently shown, and the scale of the map is detailed enough to name every major street. This also enabled us the opportunity to include schools, shopping areas, post offices, and churches, as well as a wide range of eating establishments. Walking/hiking trails have also been included. There was not as much room for inset maps as we had hoped, but good-sized urban map of Amarillo, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City are included. The map has two covers, one for each State, for easier display; both States are done at the same scale.
