Wegenkaart - landkaart Mont Blanc & Alpen | ITMB
As far as mountains go, Mont Blanc in France and Italy, forming the border between the two countries, with Switzerland nearby, is the best known and most attractive mountain in the Alps. The peak itself is far too challenging for most climbers to attempt, but the region is dotted with ski lifts, hiking trails in the lower regions, and fascinating scenic villages. Mont Blanc tops out at 4,807.81 metres and is protected by Monte Bianco National Park in Italy. There is a long tunnel underneath the mountain joining France (near Chamonix) and Italy (near Courmayeur) and a beautiful highway along its western side (the D1506) and in Italy along its south side (SS26). There is also a Grande Route long-distance hiking trail that surrounds the mountain. We show it in its entirety, including numerous overnight stopping areas, either in towns or in mountain refuges. Naturally, skiing is a huge draw, and we include several ski lifts, all rail lines in the region, including the fabulous cog line fr…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Liechtenstein & Oostenrijk West | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Liechtenstein & Oostenrijk West | ITMB
Europe is dotted with mini-states that exist solely for historic reasons but are fiercely independent. Liechtenstein, surrounded by Switzerland on its west and south and Austria on its other borders, is such a state. It is larger and more diverse than many imagine and is quite a popular ski resort region. Side 1 is a detailed map of the principality, framed on the west by the Rhine River and a bit of Switzerland and on the east by Austria. Most development occurs in the Rhine Valley in a north-south direction, dominated by the capital city of Vaduz. There are five access points from Switzerland across the Rhine, one from the south, and two from Austria in the north. The ski haven of Malbun is prominently shown, and the scale of the map is detailed enough to name every major street. This also enabled us the opportunity to include schools, shopping areas, post offices, and churches, as well as a wide range of eating establishments. Walking/hiking trails have also been included. This is …

Wegenkaart - landkaart Italy North & Central | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Italy North & Central | ITMB
Italy is a very densely populated country, requiring sectional maps to portray its complex road/rail network in sufficient detail to make sense. This is a brand new title for ITMB, covering the central portion of the peninsula from Naples north to Florence on side one, and includes a large inset map of Sardinia. Side two covers the vast expanse of the north of the country, from the high alpine valleys of D’Aosta and Trentino to the plains of northern Italy and the coastal provinces of the Mediterranean and Adriatic coastlines. The immediate border areas of France and Switzerland are included, but the extensive plate name index covers most of those countries. Motorways (in blue) tend to be toll highways. Multi-lane highways (in magenta) and principal highways (in green) tend to be non-toll. The red lines are ordinary two-lane roadways, and tend to go through villages every kilometer or so and to follow mountainous contours. We spent a week in January, 2020, in the Rome to Naples to Mon…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Montana & Idaho | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Montana & Idaho | ITMB
Een degelijke kaart met aanduidingen van o.a. nationale parken, vliegveld, benzinepompen. ITMB is pleased to release two more state maps, this time of Montana on one side, and adjacent Idaho on the other side. Montana prides itself on being the ‘blue sky’ state. Due to its high elevation, the sky does appear to be a darker shade of blue than is common in areas closer to the ocean. The state is lightly populated, so much of its attractiveness rests with natural features, such as Glacier National Park on the Canadian border, and Yellowstone National Park on the Wyoming border. The state is also perfect camping country, and our map includes dozens of authorized campsites. It also includes the national heritage site of Little Big Horn, where Lt. Colonel Custer and the US 7th Cavalry were massacred after foolishly attacking a vastly larger encampment of Sioux and Cheyenne first nations people under the leadership of Sitting Bull. The second side of the map portrays the State of Idaho, an e…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Bahrain & Qatar | ITMB
Een degelijke kaart met aanduidingen van o.a. nationale parken, vliegveld, benzinepomp, dirt-roads en kleine plattegrond van hoofdstad. Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken.  Schaal: - Bahrein 1:115.000 - Qatar 1:300.000 The northern portion of the United Arab Emirates consists of a small peninsula (Qatar) and an island (Bahrain). Although these countries are not geographically significant in relation to their neighbours, they are enormously wealthy, thanks to oil, and have aspirations of grandeur. Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup of soccer in November 2022. This is significant. Qatar, as a destination country, is now 'on the map'. Its capital, Doha, is quite well developed, with three Metro subway lines, motorways, and a sophisticated city centre dominated by superb high-rise architecture. Just to the west, the island of Bahrain is just as wealthy, and just as likely to have ornate architecture, luxurious shopping arcades, and an extravagant lifestyle. Its capital, Manama, is growing…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Northern British Columbia | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Northern British Columbia | ITMB
British Columbia is big! Gargantuan huge, in fact, although it is lightly populated. ITMB published a map of the more densely populated southern half of the province a number of years ago, and we have been asked to give the same emphasis to the northern half ever since. Here it is! Side 1 is of the western portion, including the Alaskan Panhandle, with the route followed by cruise ships heading north and clearly delineates the border between Canada and the USA that nearly erupted into warfare (54 40 or fight). It also shows the Stewart Highway heading north towards the Yukon, with its branch leading to Hyder, Alaska, the only place in the USA that uses Canadian money and does all its banking in Canada. The second side covers the eastern half of BC’s north, with the Alaska Highway starting in Dawson Creek and extending north to Fort Nelson before veering west into the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains to the Yukon border. This is true wilderness country. It is virtually unpopulated o…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Tahiti - French Polynesia | ITMB
Anyone who has visited Tahiti retains fond memories of a wonderful Polynesian paradise. This map shows the major islands of French Polynesia as a series of large insets on Side 1. An overall inset map showing the many islands is also shown, but for showing detail, one must expand the individual islands. The largest one is the volcanic Tahiti Nui, with the capital city of Pape’ete (or Papeete in English), for which a detailed inset map is included. Most visitors stay in the vicinity of Papeete, along the coast. We show several popular resorts. There is a good circular road around the island’s shoreline, but no roads in the interior. The island is joined to another, called Tahiti Iti, or Little Tahiti, and roads extend partway around this less-developed part of the combined island. Most of the other islands are rarely visited, although they have resorts, beaches, and a lifestyle of their own. Names like Huahine, Riatea, Tahaa, and Maiao may not be as familiar as they should be, but all …

Wegenkaart - landkaart Dolomieten / Noordoost-Italië | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Dolomieten / Noordoost-Italië | ITMB
The mountainous northern portion of Italy is one of today’s touristic highlights. This is a new title for ITMB and one that required considerable research to accomplish. It not only shows the roads and rail lines in the region, but hotels, castles/fortresses, museums, and a significant number of footpaths. This is the first new map of this important region, covering from Trento in the south to Sterzing-Vipiteno in the north. It also has a Top Attractions list to assist users. The reverse side is a more general map of northeastern Italy from the Slovenian border west to Brescia and from the Swiss border south to Siena, for the assistance of end users. This side has its own Top Attractions list and an outline of the area covered in better detail that is on the other side of the sheet.

Wegenkaart - landkaart Tasmania & Victoria | ITMB
The island of Tasmania is Australia’s smallest state, but is packed with touristic delights. Hobart is the capital and a charming Victorian city in the south of the island. Much of the west coast is a large nature preserve with limited access and most development is close to the northern shore, centred on Devonport and its ferry connections with Melbourne, in Victoria State. Tasmania also administers several offshore islands, such as King, Flinders, and Bruny. We have included a Top Attractions listing for the reader to enjoy. The other side of the sheet is the Australian mainland state of Victoria, best known as the home of Melbourne and the beautiful coastal highway to Adelaide. A basic inset map of Melbourne is included, but the focus of the map is on the recreationa…

Wegenkaart - landkaart - Stadsplattegrond Montreal & Southern Quebec | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart - Stadsplattegrond Montreal & Southern Quebec | ITMB
Stadsplattegrond van Montreal met register. Op de achterzijde een kaart van het zuiden van Quebec. 1:12,500/1:850,000 on waterproof paper. In this third, updated, edition of Canada's third largest city, we have added a user-friendly bonus. As is common now to most of our city maps, we have included a regional map of the hinterland of the urban area, so buyers won't have to purchase a second map to explore the environs of the city being presented. In the case of Montreal, being in a huge geographic country, this means Southern Quebec which, because of its size, dictates a map of more than one to a million scale. In the European context this would be the equivalent of Paris and all of France as a 'regional' map of the surrounds of Paris - but that's France and this is Canada.   Montreal (or Mont Royale in its original) was a village called Hochelaga when the early French explorers arrived in the early 1600s. They established a trading fort and, generally speaking, maintained good relati…

Naturally, skiing is a huge draw, and we include several ski lifts, all rail lines in the region, including the fabulous cog line from Chamonix to the Grotte de Glace. The Grande Route trail also passes through Switzerland, and we note numerous places to stay in Champex-Lac and La Fouly. The map also includes La Thuile, in Italy, with its many hotels, and touches the nearby French resort town of Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval, a name that should entice anyone to go and visit. The second side of the map is just as interesting, covering the Alps from Geneva to Zagreb, providing drivers with comprehensive coverage of all highways and secondary routes. Rail routes are also emphasized. Given its grandiose scale, touristic points are limited to the most important, but numerous camping sites are noted, as well as all towns and border crossings, notably with Switzerland. The map has two covers, one favouring Mont Blanc and one oriented to the Alps themselves, providing opportunities to market this interesting title to two markets.
