The other side of the map contains detailed city maps of Monterrey (Mexico’s second largest city), Saltillo, and Victoria. Just think of this as being Mexico south of Texas, from Matamores west to Torreon and from Del Rio/Acuna all the way south to historic San Luis Potosi. This map will appeal to the American market primarily, but is a very detailed map of a part of Mexico that has largely been ignored until now. This is a brand new title for ITMB, combining North and South Korea into one double-sided map focusing on the entire Korean Peninsula rather than its political components. The peninsula is undergoing a lot of change at the moment, and no one knows the ultimate outcome. North Korea seems interested in opening itself somewhat to South Koreans, and even if steps to date seem like baby ones, tensions between north and south seem cordial at the moment. For the time being, this map replaces our separate map of North Korea, as changing conditions makes it too risky for us to re-do our North Korea title until its future path is clearer. Brazil, or more properly, Brasil, is a difficult country to map as a country, in that most of the developed areas are in the relatively small extreme south of the country. The vast region of the Amazon Basin is lightly populated and is not easy to access. Our solution has been to portray the south portion on one side at a detailed scale, to enable such locations as Rio and Sao Paulo a better scale to help travellers, while mapping the north at a respectable but more limited scale on the That said, one still needs both sides of the map, as Brasilia, the capital, falls on the north side other side of the sheet. I should also note that roads north of Brasilia tend to be less well-paved than those in the south. Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken.   The focus of this map is on Guyana, reflecting the changes coming about as a result of the growing assertiveness of Brasil, which has repaved the highway north from Manaus on the Amazon to the border with Guyana (at Bomfin). The Guyanese are improving the road to Georgetown, shortening travel times for goods in both directions by weeks. This new bridge also enables travelers to pass north and south much more easily. We have also re-done the inset map of Georgetown to bring it up to date. We have also changed the regional map on the reverse side, which used to cover all three Guianas countries, and replaced it by one concentrating on the other two countries.     This map began as a result of a map conference held in Philadelphia a few years ago. Maps of the city at that time tended to concentrate on the entire spread-out urban area, resulting in the historic core, which was of interest mostly to visitors, crowded into a small portion of the map. Our map covers from the zoo and art gallery in the north to West Oregon St in South Phillie, so takes on much more than the historic area and the downtown, but does so at an excellent scale, so everything from the Liberty Bell to the University of Pennsylvania campus shows up clearly and easy to read.     The far north of Canada, north of 60 degrees, consists of three territories; the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Until now, there has never been a proper map of the territory that was carved off from the NWT a quarter century ago. With only 30,000 people and a scattering of settlements, Nunavut is larger than western Europe in area. This map took us years to prepare, using 1:250,000 government topo maps as a base and tracing thousands of little lakes. The traditional passageway of the fabled Northwest Passage is also shown. The most northerly civilian community in the world is on the map – Grise Bay, as well as Alert, the most remote place on earth. Originally, the NWT covered all of northwestern North America west of the Louisiana Purchase and the Loyalist colonies, and north of the Spanish provinces (essentially north of current day Sactamento).     Ghana was the first African colony to become an independent nation, in 1957. It may not be the largest, most populous, or richest country on the continent, but it is one of the best-managed and prosperous democracies. One seldom hears about Ghana on the news as a result, because there is seldom bad news to report! Accra is one of the oldest cities in sub-Saharan Africa, and the coast of Ghana is littered by historical remnants of trading forts built by the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British during the age of expansion. Accra itself is an interesting city and our motivation in publishing a map of it is simply the reality that no map existed prior to this effort. We visited Grand Bahama Island earlier this month and can attest to the friendliness of the people and the attractiveness of the island. This map shows all of the many islands that comprise The Bahamas. There isn’t a lot of contouring, as the country’s highest point is only 36 feet above sea level. An inset map expanding the island of New Providence, and separate inset maps of Nassau and of Freeport, are included. The map is double-sided, east half-west half, printed on waterproof paper for durability.

    This is our newest map for the Caribbean region and essentially replaces the now-defunct Rough Guide map for this country. Trinidad has a chequered history. First ‘discovered’ by Columbus, and named Holy Trinity, its inhabitants were fairly quickly deported as slaves to work in Spanish colonies elsewhere. Sir Walter Raleigh, who was little more than a pirate in spite of later saving England from the Spanish Armada, sacked the only Spanish settlement in 1595. Britain captured the island in 1797, adding Tobago to its administration in 1889. The country’s two claims to fame are the largest Carnival street festival in the world, and having the world’s largest lake of boiling asphalt. Tobago has an amazing history, having changed colonial masters 30 times in a century, as Britain, France, and Spain competed for dominance in the Caribbean.     Mexico is one of our favourite places to visit, and is also very popular with American travelers. The five states that border Texas – Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, and San Luis Potosi may not be well-known internationally, but Monterrey (the third largest city in Mexico), Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, Torreon, Tampico, Aguascalientes, and Ciudad Victoria evoke images of the Mexico of ranches and vast distances. This is actually a fertile and economically developing part of the country, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico on the east, Texas on the north, and ITMB’s maps of Central Mexico on the south and our new map of Sonora and Chihuahua States on the west. This is an excellent map for cross-border expeditions; printed single-sided, on paper, showing main and secondary road connections, rail lines, gas stations in smaller towns, and whatever tourist attractions we were able to locate.
