Wegenkaart - landkaart Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan | ITMB
Finally, our ITMB map of Uzbekistan is back in print! Tourism to the ‘Stans’ is increasing as these former parts of the Soviet Empire find their way in a changing world. This time, we have combined the country with the two other Stans on one side, which makes sense given their shape; then, on the reverse side, we have expanded the artwork to show Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to good advantage. The map also includes excellent inset maps of Samarkand, Tashkent, Dushanbe, and Bishkek, which I’m sure all are familiar names. Needless to say, all three countries count as ‘adventure’ travel. Facilities are good in major cities, but roads are of an uncertain quality, and accommodations sparse. Still, this is an exceptionally interesting part of the world. The traditional Great Silk Road passed through this region, and to …

Wegenkaart - landkaart South Pacific Cruising & Samoa | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart South Pacific Cruising & Samoa | ITMB
Op de achterzijde een overzichtskaart van Samoa This is a new venture for ITMB. Cruising is a rapidly-growing segment of the travel industry, experiencing double-digit growth rates annually. Obviously, this is a thriving market. In conjunction with several cruise ship lines, we have prepared a map of the South Pacific Ocean, which extends southwards from Hawai'i to the southern tip of New Zealand and eastwards from central Australia/Papua New Guinea to the Pitcairn Islands. Thus, it does not include the popular South East Asia and China coast routes. We think this has to change at a time when 25,000,000 people are travelling by cruise ships. At the same time, we must keep coverage area relevant for those end users of the artwork. Even at 1:12M, most of the area covered is water, with island countries such as Fiji, Tonga, Kiribati, Tahiti, and the Cook Islands being vis…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Bahrain & Qatar | ITMB
Schaal: - Bahrein 1:115.000 - Qatar 1:300.000 The northern portion of the United Arab Emirates consists of a small peninsula (Qatar) and an island (Bahrain). Although these countries are not geographically significant in relation to their neighbours, they are enormously wealthy, thanks to oil, and have aspirations of grandeur. Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup of soccer in November 2022. This is significant. Qatar, as a destination country, is now 'on the map'. Its capital, Doha, is quite well developed, with three Metro subway lines, motorways, and a sophisticated city centre dominated by superb high-rise architecture. Just to the west, the island of Bahrain is just as wealthy, and just as likely to have ornate architecture, luxurious shopping arcades, and an extravagant lifestyle. Its capital, Manama, is growing…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Japan North & Hokkaido | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Japan North & Hokkaido | ITMB
In one sense, this is a brand new map, in that the artwork is all brand new. In another sense, it is our map of Hokkaid re-worked into a more marketable format. In any case, it is a very much-needed sectional map of that portion of Japan from Tokyo northwards. Hokkaido is actually one of the most interesting parts of Japan to visit. The island was opened to settlement only after the Ameicans forced Japan to allow contacts with foreign countries in 1868, thanks to Admiral Peary and Gunboat Diplomacy. Hokkaido has been relatively untouched by Japan’s rush to economic dominance, so is the country’s skiing capital in winter and the part of Japan most similar to America. An inset map of Sapporo is included. The other side shows the main island of the country from Nagoya and Toyama (which are considerably west of Tokyo…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Botswana - Zimbabwe | ITMB
7th Edition 1:1,600,000/11:1,000,000 on waterproof stone paper Both Botswana and its neighbour, Zimbabwe, form a common entity and a British heritage in Central Southern Africa, but there the resemblance ends. The Bechuana formed an alliance of sorts with the Pritish to protect them from the Boers in the then-nearby Transvaal. Upon a peaceful transition to independence as Botswana, it has evolved into a democratic and peaceful country. Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodeisa, is a failed state, although potentially, Zimbabwe could dominate tourism if governmental affairs were orderly. This map focuses on Botswana simply because that country is a beacon of orderly pleasantness in the continent; well run, routistacally well developed, with good infrastructure, and close to the game preserves of both South Africa and Zimbabwe. …

Wegenkaart - landkaart Turkmenistan - Afghanistan | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Turkmenistan - Afghanistan | ITMB
These two countries, bordering on Iran and Uzbekistan, are in a very volatile part of the world. They constitute the heart of Central Asia; a bit difficult to reach, but definitely suitable for adventure travel. Turkmenistan occupies one side of the sheet, and Afghanistan is on the other side at a better scale. Turkmenistan stretches from the Caspian Sea to a major river (the Amuder) that forms its eastern boundary with Uzbekistan and its border with Afghanistan. An inset map of the capital just north of the Iranian border, Ashgabat, is included. On the other side, Afghanistan is a lovely country and is slowly coming out of an extremely bad situation. It is still quite an unsafe country, and fighting could flare up again in the spring. Regardless, it is a strategically important country and one that ITMB has taken quite a bit of effort to make into a significant map. This is a very interesting map, of an of-the-beaten-track part of the world. It reflects the best information we have, …

Wegenkaart - landkaart Paraguay & Bolivia South | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Paraguay & Bolivia South | ITMB
Technically, this is a new title for ITMB, in that it is not merely an updating of a previous edition, but it is still a map of Paraguay, basically, so we count it as an updated edition with part of Bolivia included. Expanding the area of coverage benefits visitors combining Paraguay and Bolivia into one trip. The first side covers Bolivia from La Paz south to the Paraguayan border, with inset maps of Potosi and Santa Cruz. The second side concentrates on Paraguay itself, with inset maps of Asuncion, the Asuncion region, and northern Paraguay. Small bits of bordering countries also are included. Road connections within Paraguay have been shown to good advantage. Both countries, being land-locked, are somewhat isolated, making travel to them something more adventuresome than visits to neighbouring countries. Howev…

This is the latest updating of one of the most interesting countries in Africa. There isn’t anything brilliantly innovative to report. We have tidied up the different layers of the artwork, have updated the road system, and have added more tourist information. We have also modernized the cover design and changed the ISBN – printed on paper, single-sided, inset map of Addis Ababa. Legend Includes: roads by classification, Airports, Ports, Gasolines, Polices, Post Offices, Bus Stations, Hospitals, Schools, Universities, Buildings, Point of Interests, Bridges, Lodgings, Campsites or Huts, Museums, and many more   Double-sided map from ITMB presenting on one side a road map of Ethiopia at 1:2,000,000 accompanied by a street plan of Addis Ababa, with on the reverse Eritrea at 1:900,000 with a plan of Asmara. Both roa…

Wegenkaart - landkaart Georgia and Tbilisi - Georgië | ITMB
Wegenkaart - landkaart Georgia and Tbilisi - Georgië | ITMB
Georgia, the country and not the American state, is a very nice, but threatened country of great historical importance. Bordered on the west by the Black Sea, on the north by Russia, and on the east by Azerbaijan, and with an ill-defined border with Turkey on the west, Georgians must be nimble to retain their independence. Only with neighbouring Armenia does Georgia enjoy relatively good relations. Historically, Georgia is a Christian enclave that dates back to the earliest days of Christianity, and its many churches are major touristic attraction. This map portrays the country as accurately as is possible, showing the expanding network of motorways, major churches, castles, touristic sites, and regrettably, areas of contention with both Russia and Azerbaijan. The reverse side shows a full-sized city map of Tbilisi, the capital. This is the first time that the city has been portrayed in such detail. Attractions include the Narikala Fortress, the cathedral, the old town centre, and the…

Brazil, or more properly, Brasil, is a difficult country to map as a country, in that most of the developed areas are in the relatively small extreme south of the country. The vast region of the Amazon Basin is lightly populated and is not easy to access. Our solution has been to portray the south portion on one side at a detailed scale, to enable such locations as Rio and Sao Paulo a better scale to help travellers, while mapping the north at a respectable but more limited scale on the That said, one still needs both sides of the map, as Brasilia, the capital, falls on the north side other side of the sheet. I should also note that roads north of Brasilia tend to be less well-paved than those in the south. The  shape of the country also presents mapping difficulties, in that little room is available for inset ma…

Productomschrijving

This is a new title for ITMB. The two Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are rapidly developing a touristic market and we feel that the world needs a good map to reflect their growing importance. The two ‘stans were part of the Soviet empire that fell apart in 1990, creating a dozen new countries. This double-sided map covers Kyrgyzstan on one side, with an inset map of its capital, Bishkek. The main attractions are Osh and Suyab, both ancient market centres on the Silk Road, and Lake Issyk-Kul, the world’s second largest alpine lake. The reverse side concentrates on Tajikistan mountainous country just west of the Himalayas, with an inset of its capital, Dushanbe. Both of these countries should be considered ‘adventure’ destinations.
