Now into its 7th Edition, we’ve added new information about the steady improvements to the Shinkansen rail network and to the motorway system. Later this year, we plan on issuing two new maps of sections of Japan, as it is becoming increasingly difficult to portray all the treasures of this beautiful island on one sheet of paper. Printed on ITM plastic paper, double-sided, waterproof. In any case, it is a very much-needed sectional map of that portion of Japan from Tokyo northwards. Hokkaido is actually one of the most interesting parts of Japan to visit. The island was opened to settlement only after the Ameicans forced Japan to allow contacts with foreign countries in 1868, thanks to Admiral Peary and Gunboat Diplomacy. Hokkaido has been relatively untouched by Japan’s rush to economic dominance, so is the country’s skiing capital in winter and the part of Japan most similar to America. An inset map of Sapporo is included. The other side shows the main island of the country from Nagoya and Toyama (which are considerably west of Tokyo)…

Most commercial maps use small sheets of paper and print single-sided, making it impossible to show this vast country to advantage. Well, Lan’s been hard at work developing a ‘proper’ traveller’s aid to navigating around the USA, and here it is. We printed it on an exceptionally large sheet of paper, 39” tall by 54” wide (our normal printing size is 27”x39”). To do this, we merged our four existing databases into one, then split them so that the west side is on one side and the east side on the other. What results is a very large sheet, but a map at a VERY good scale. We were able to fit in 6,765 urban areas, all the Inte…

Although these countries are not geographically significant in relation to their neighbours, they are enormously wealthy, thanks to oil, and have aspirations of grandeur. Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup of soccer in November 2022. This is significant. Qatar, as a destination country, is now 'on the map'. Its capital, Doha, is quite well developed, with three Metro subway lines, motorways, and a sophisticated city centre dominated by superb high-rise architecture. Just to the west, the island of Bahrain is just as wealthy, and just as likely to have ornate architecture, luxurious shopping arcades, and an extravagant lifestyle. Its capital, Manama, is growing …

Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken   We're introducing a map of the US Southwest States, notably most of California and Nevada, Arizona, most of Utah, and the western third of New Mexico and Colorado. Our regional series is at 1:1M scale. This results in instances where the name of the map may differ from the common perception. In US parlance, the 'Southwest' is often thought to be Arizona and New Mexico, whereas in reality it is southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. If one includes New Mexico, the square sheet of paper has to go so far north that one ends up including Denver. This is our compromise and we'll figure out how to deal with Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma a bit further down the line. This double-sided map covers from Reno and Sacramento in the north to Tijuana and Deming NM in the south, and from the Pacific coastline in the west to Gallop NM and Grand Junc…

This is a new title for ITMB, providing detailed coverage of almost all of what most of us consider to be the Scandinavian countries. Only the southernmost portions of Denmark had to be left off. The map is double-sided, with Denmark and most of Norway and Sweden on one side and their balances and Finland on the reverse side. The road network, particularly the motorways and A-type roads shown up very well. Secondary roads show well and also are easy to see. Rail lines are present as well as ferry routes, of which there are many. The area of Scandinavia is so large in the European context that little attention has been paid to the region. When mapping a large area such as this is, it is difficult to show every detail. We have done our best and included all world heritage sites, major churches, castles, some campsites, and as many touristic attractions as could be fitted…

ITMB, after only thirty years on the go, finally gets around to publishing a map of Canada. When we first started mapping, there was a pressing need for good maps of Central and South America, then of Africa, then etc etc and we never found time to concentrate on our own country until fairly recently. This map was prepared by Natural Resources Canada and is, as a result, as accurate a map as one could hope to have. We are very proud of it, and very pleased to be able to use such top-rate cartography. The map covers all of the land mass of Canada, from its southernmost point to the top of Ellesmere Island and from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific. It’s an excellent map, but I’m going to give one proviso. Canada is the second-largest country on the face of the planet and there is no way that a single-sided sheet can portray …
