ITMB, after only thirty years on the go, finally gets around to publishing a map of Canada. When we first started mapping, there was a pressing need for good maps of Central and South America, then of Africa, then etc etc and we never found time to concentrate on our own country until fairly recently. This map was prepared by Natural Resources Canada and is, as a result, as accurate a map as one could hope to have. We are very proud of it, and very pleased to be able to use such top-rate cartography. The map covers all of the land mass of Canada, from its southernmost point to the top of Ellesmere Island and from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific. It’s an excellent map, but I’m going to give one proviso. Canada is the second-largest country on the face of the planet and there is no way that a single-sided sheet can portray…

Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken. We call the map the Atlantic States guardedly for obvious reasons. First, the northeastern Atlantic States are missing and second, Florida's Caribbean coastline is included. Also, to cover an area so long, we had to go further inland than 'just' the coast, so all of Pennsylvania and West Virginia are included. The area of coverage of side A is Philadelphia/Pittsburg south to Augusta and Charleston. Side B continues south to the southernmost portion of Florida and west to Panama City. Inset maps of Orlando and Miami are included on this side as well. Both road and rail connections are shown, and distances between communities shown. This is actually our second attempt at mapping the western portion of Canada; the first covered everything from northwestern Ontario to the Pacific Ocean and, while it was an excellent map, the scale that such a huge area covered necessitated severe problems. In this version, all of British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon have been mapped from fresh digital data and presented at 1:1.4T scale. This would have been impossible when we prepared the first map. The Northwest Territories portion had to be compressed in two ways; first, the scale is 1:2M; second, only the portion with roads is shown. This is still an extremely large area. One has to consider the actual size of Canada when designing a map. Most countries in Europe would fit into this area, which only covers 20% of Canada.     This is completely new artwork and a new approach to ITMB’s mapping of the islands in the Gulf of Georgia, between the mainland and Vancouver Island. This double-sided map incorporates two NTS topographical maps into its artwork, with points of interest, hiking trails, boat launching spots, and B&Bs included. It also covers a wider area than previously, so we have decided to call this map a 1st Edition; printed on durable ITM plastic paper. Legend Includes: Roads by classification, Ferry terminal, camping sites, museums, canoeing, fishing, tourist information sites, hiking roads, lighthouse, picnic areas, parks, and point of interest.

    Canada is a vast country in area; inconceivably enormous in European terms. It is best mapped as a series of regional maps and this is the first of two maps that we hope will portray the Atlantic coastline of all of North America. Side 1 concentrates on Newfoundland and Labrador, with a tiny bit of Nunuvut at the top end of the Ungava Peninsula. An inset map of St. John’s, capital of Nfld/Lab is included, as is the French Overseas Territory of St. Pierre et Miquelon. The new paved highway across Labrador is the highlight of this side of the map! The second side of the map focusses on Nova Scotia/Cape Breton and parts of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, with a detailed inset of central Halifax. The former French fortress of Louisbourg is a must-see for anyone visiting Cape Breton, as are the many Loyalist towns created along the coast of Nova Scotia to house refugees fleeing turmoil in the American colonies during the Revolutionary War. The hundreds of islands making up the island nation of Indonesia make a double-sided map inevitable in order to show any significant amount of detail. Side 1 shows the western half, starting with Sumatra in the upper left and including Java and most of the island of Borneo (Kalimantan Province to the Indonesians). This side also includes a large inset map of central Jakarta (for better detail see our separate map of the city); ditto for Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. Bali, Lombok, and Sumbawa islands are in the lower right portion of the map, and most of Malaysia and all of Singapore are included, simply because they are there.     At long last, we have finally found time to complete our detailed mapping of the American state of Hawaii. The island of Maui may not be at well-known as Oahu, which is extremely popular with Japanese honeymooners, but it is as attractive touristically. Our coverage covers most of Side 1 and includes a detailed inset map of Wailuku, the principal urban area, as well as insets of Lahaina on the west coast and Wailea resort area. This side also includes a map of the island of Lanai, with its main urban area of Lanai City as an inset. Side 2 concentrates on the islands of Molokai, Kauai, and the lightly populated island of Ni’ihau, and includes detailed inset maps of Lihue, Kaunakakai, and Po’ipu, all of which are major resort destinations. The islands are loaded with beaches and places to stay, but also with attractions, which are shown on the map. This is a beautiful map, one of the best we have ever produced, and is a fitting companion to our maps of Big Island, and Oahu/Honolulu, as …

    As technology improves, we are able to produce more detailed maps than was previously possible. Such is the case with Ireland, a part of the world consisting of two countries divided by religion and history. Preparing a map of Ireland as a double-sided map means cutting the island into two geographic portions. Side 1 covers the northern half. This includes the portion known as Northern Ireland, or Ulster, and a fair portion of the Republic of Ireland, or Eire; essentially everything north of Dublin and west to Counties Mayo and Galway. Side 2 covers the southern half of the island from just north of Dublin to the outer tips of County Kerry. It also includes a nice inset map of central Dublin. Naturally, all motorways and roads are included, as are touristic attractions, camping/caravan sites, ferry terminals, and Top Attractions. This is a very detailed travel map of the island, printed on waterproof paper for durability. We had great fun driving around Ireland researching this map. I…
