The map is printed on revolutionary stone paper (tear-resistant, waterproof, friendly to the environment, and bio-degradable as well as extremely durable), and has two different cover pictures, so it can be marketed either as a map of Brasil or of the Amazon Basin - or both! Brazil, or more properly, Brasil, is a difficult country to map as a country, in that most of the developed areas are in the relatively small extreme south of the country. The vast region of the Amazon Basin is lightly populated and is not easy to access. Our solution has been to portray the south portion on one side at a detailed scale, to enable such locations as Rio and Sao Paulo a better scale to help travellers, while mapping the north at a respectable but more limited scale on the That said, one still needs both sides of the map, as Brasilia, the capital, falls on the north side other side of the sheet. I should also note that roads north of Brasilia tend to be less well-paved than those in the south. Als overzichtskaart goed te gebruiken. Brasil is such a large country that it needs two maps to cover it adequately. This map covers the country from the southernmost point to Sao Luis on the northern coast and inland as far as Brasilia. This is where 80% of the country lives and where 95% of the tourists visit. The interior and Amazon region will be covered separately. This map includes separate inset maps of both Rio and Sao Paulo and shows the extensive motorway network of Brasil to good advantage. The top attractions of the region are noted, such as Iguazu Falls, Sugar Loaf, Brasilia, and Salvador.

However, the entire country fits very nicely on one side of a map sheet, so we have combined it with neighboring Vietnam's Mekong Delta map. There are two treasures in Cambodia: the Angkor Wat complex of temples near Siem Riep, and the Capital of Phnom Penh. Cambodia became extremely destabilized by the Vietnam War in the 1960s, leading to a rebellion that placed the murderous Khmer Rouge in charge. This led to massive atrocities and de-populated all towns, killing millions. Siem Riep is a thriving touristic city, and UNESCO manages the Angkor complex very well.     Following the so-called Arab spring of a few years ago, northern Africa experienced much turbulence. Egypt experienced the overthrow of the government, the installation of a radical religious-oriented replacement, and the installation of military governance. Tourism plummeted. Most map publishers discontinued their maps of the country. Five years later, Egypt has stabilized and tourism is growing. We feel that the time is right to re-introduce our ITMB map of Egypt. This version focuses on the portions of the country that have been re-opened for tourism, which means from the Mediterranean coastline south to the Aswan Dam. The portion further south remains closed for the moment, as is the border crossing with Sudan. We have also been forced to leave off the Great Sand Sea and the Western Desert portions for the same reason of unrest, as the border areas with Libya remain very unstable. The urban area was settled by the French, and was the capital of the vast Louisiana Territory for many years. Napoleon, needing money to fight his many wars, sold the colony to the USA, in 1803, doubling the size of the new American nation overnight. The French Quarter, with buildings dating back 300 years, is the heart of the city and home to dozens of jazz emporiums. The British expulsion of the Acadians from what is now the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, added a vibrant component to the city, creating the concept of the Cajuns. The oldest cathedral in the USA, St Louis, has dominated the city's skyline since 1794, opened just as the French Revolution was at its height. In one sense, this is a brand new map, in that the artwork is all brand new. In another sense, it is our map of Hokkaid re-worked into a more marketable format. In any case, it is a very much-needed sectional map of that portion of Japan from Tokyo northwards. Hokkaido is actually one of the most interesting parts of Japan to visit. The island was opened to settlement only after the Ameicans forced Japan to allow contacts with foreign countries in 1868, thanks to Admiral Peary and Gunboat Diplomacy. Hokkaido has been relatively untouched by Japan’s rush to economic dominance, so is the country’s skiing capital in winter and the part of Japan most similar to America. Probably the most interesting spot on this side is the town of Kanchanaburi, which is within easy striking distance of Bangkok. This was the site made famous by the war movie Bridge on the River Kwai (now Khwae) on the Japanese-built Burma Railway. The current bridge is not the original, but the Commonwealth Graves Cemetery is well worth a visit. The other side concentrates on the wilder portion of Thailand, the far north. All known points of interest have been included, including a lovely inset map of Chiang Mai, the focal point of the north.     These two countries, bordering on Iran and Uzbekistan, are in a very volatile part of the world. They constitute the heart of Central Asia; a bit difficult to reach, but definitely suitable for adventure travel. Turkmenistan occupies one side of the sheet, and Afghanistan is on the other side at a better scale. Turkmenistan stretches from the Caspian Sea to a major river (the Amuder) that forms its eastern boundary with Uzbekistan and its border with Afghanistan. An inset map of the capital just north of the Iranian border, Ashgabat, is included. On the other side, Afghanistan is a lovely country and is slowly coming out of an extremely bad situation. It is still quite an unsafe country, and fighting could flare up again in the spring. Regardless, it is a strategically important country and one that ITMB has taken quite a bit of effort to make into a significant map. This is a very interesting map, of an of-the-beaten-track part of the world. It reflects the best information we have, …

ITMB, after only thirty years on the go, finally gets around to publishing a map of Canada. When we first started mapping, there was a pressing need for good maps of Central and South America, then of Africa, then etc etc and we never found time to concentrate on our own country until fairly recently. This map was prepared by Natural Resources Canada and is, as a result, as accurate a map as one could hope to have. We are very proud of it, and very pleased to be able to use such top-rate cartography. The map covers all of the land mass of Canada, from its southernmost point to the top of Ellesmere Island and from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific. It’s an excellent map, but I’m going to give one proviso. Canada is the second-largest country on the face of the planet and there is no way that a single-sided sheet can portray…
