We have replaced our earlier artwork with detailed NTS cartography that is superbly precise, and overlaid it with trail and camping facilities. In this map, we cover not only the renowned WCT itself, but the fabulous Carmanah old-growth forest in the interior of Vancouver Island, and the Broken Islands Group, part of the Pacific Rim National Park complex. This is truly a marvelous map of part of the west coast region of BC’s wonderful Vancouver Island.

The best-known portion is the part just north and west of Vancouver, known as the Sunshine Coast. The rugged Coast Mountain Range makes road-building impractical for much of the interior, so communities such as Gibsons, Sechelt, and Powell River are joined together by Highway 101 and by ferries. Many Fiords take kayakers deep into pristine wilderness areas, and former logging roads are now commonly used for wilderness hikes. The famous Strait of Georgia, used by cruise ships to Alaska, cuts through the middle of the map, with the largely unpopulated and wild Bute Inlet leading TO Waddington Glacier and the vast Homathko Icefield. Our popular map showing the recreational hiking trails in the mountains within the urban area of Metro Vancouver, but outside of its urbanized limits, continues into its most recent printing with an additional government topo map on the reverse side showing the full extent of the mountainous expanse of the Coastal Range that comes right into Vancouver. We are truly blessed as a city to be located in a sheltered bay of the ocean, with towering mountains looking after us. Trails cut by early settlers, by Boy Scouts, and by hiking enthusiasts, have been enjoyed for decades. I first mapped these trails in the mid-1980s, and we have kept the information as accurate and up to date as possible for more than two decades and six editions. ITMB, being based in Vancouver, BC, understandably has a local/regional market for our map line. We have a map of Western Canada, as well as an atlas, a very nice map of BC itself, a map of the south half of BC, and a map of part of BC combined with Washington State. What we did not have, until now, was a map covering the most touristically-visited part of all of Canada – namely, the southern halves of both British Columbia and its neighbour, Alberta, with a small amount of Washington State, Idaho, and Montana (to assist those heading north and needing to know about border crossings).
