Wandelgids The Rob Roy Way | Rucksack Readers
Wandelgids The Rob Roy Way | Rucksack Readers
Deze gids geeft een goede beschrijving van de lange afstands route. De kaarten zijn schetsmatig maar wel duidelijk. The Rob Roy Way is one of Scotland's Great Trails and is very popular with both walkers and cyclists. It runs through many places linked with Scotland's most famous outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor (1671-1734). The route starts at Drymen (near Glasgow) and ends at Pitlochry in the eastern Highlands, so it takes you away from the crowds following the West Highland Way to some of Scotland's finest lochs and glens.   Its main spine runs for 79 miles (127 km) and is waymarked. There is an optional extra 17 miles if you take the wilderness extension through Glen Almond and Glen Quaich. Most walkers complete it in 6-8 days and most cyclists in 3-4 days.   The main route goes through Loch Ard forest to Aberfoyle, goes beside Lochs Venachar, Lubnaig and Tay and passes through superb scenery, with interesting aqueducts, viaducts and a 3600 year-old stone circle. The terrain is a mix…

Wandelgids Walking the Corbetts: Volume 2 | Cicerone
Wandelgids Walking the Corbetts: Volume 2 | Cicerone
Uitstekende wandelgids, goed beschreven met veel praktische informatie om de route te kunnen lopen, inclusief redelijke kaarten. This guide describes routes up all 109 Corbetts north of the Great Glen. The Corbetts offer challenging ascents and descents on steep slopes. The Corbetts (Scotland's 2500-2999ft mountains) are every bit as interesting as the Munros (3000ft and over), often clear when the Munros are in cloud, walkable on short winter days, free of the peak-bagging crowds of their taller neighbours.   Walking the Corbetts is divided into two volumes. The guide covers the Corbetts to the north of the Great Glen, which runs from Fort William to Inverness and includes those in Knoydart, Applecross, Torridon and the isles of Skye, Mull, Rum and Harris. Choosing the best, rather than the quickest, routes up each summit the author covers 109 peaks in 90 routes, illustrated with custom 1:100,000 mapping.   South of the Great Glen it is the Munros which attract most attention, but alo…

Productomschrijving

Uitstekende wandelgids van de Great Glen Way, waarbij naast alle noodzakelijke informatie ook gebruik gemaakt wordt van de echte topografische kaart. inclusief gidsje met routekaarten van 1:25000 (deze is hier ook los te bestellen)   Guidebook to walking the Great Glen Way, one of Scotland’s Great Trails that runs along the Great Glen between Fort William and Inverness. The guidebook - which includes both a guide to the route and a separate OS map booklet – describes the route in both directions.   Ideal as an introduction to long-distance walking, the 79-mile Great Glen Way is split into six stages easily walked within a week, with high- and low-level options given for two of these. An alternative route past the northern side of Loch Oich (via Invergarry) is also described.   The guidebook includes practical information, 1:100,000 OS mapping, step-by-step route descriptions for every stage of the walk and lists the facilities found along the way. A separate booklet of 1:25,000 OS mapping provides all the mapping needed to walk the trail. The trail stretches alongside the scenic Caledonian Canal, which links Loch Lochy and Loch Oich with the famous Loch Ness. The route uses undulating forest tracks, lakeside paths, old drove roads and military roads, as well as contrasting stretches over heather moorlands or through city suburbs. The Great Glen is one of the most remarkable features in the Scottish landscape - a ruler-straight valley along an ancient fault line through the Highlands.   The route in this guidebook is described in both directions, and given the connection with the West Highland Way at Fort William there is no reason why both trails shouldn’t be walked together in one long journey between Glasgow and Inverness, or vice versa.   Steden en Dorpen Inverness, Drumnadrochit, Invermoriston, Fort Augustus, North Laggan, Gairlochy, Fort William
