It is for them, and all other Dutch readers interested in English, that this book has been written. Voertaal: English is a collection of lively and informative columns about English aimed specifically at native Dutch speakers. Written by an American journalist of Dutch descent, these columns cover everything from the language of CVs to the grammatical challenge of the dangling participle. Along the way readers learn how to pronounce key words in presentations, how to get foreigners to say their names properly, and how to respond when an American dares make a disparaging reference to a 'Dutch treat'. More than simply a survival guide for Dutch professionals in a globalizing world, Voertaal: English, like its predecessor Native English for Nederlanders, is an entertaining survey of the difficulties, but also of the joys, of speaking proper English.
