    De Grumman F-14A Tomcat is een Amerikaanse supersonische straaljager. Het onderscheidende kenmerk is de variabele geometrie van de vleugels. De straaljager werd ontwikkeld en geproduceerd door de Grumman Corpration Label. De veronderstellingen waren om de vloot te verdedigen door middel van luchtoverwicht. Het werd ook gebruikt om tactische verkenningen uit te voeren. Latere modificaties maakten het mogelijk bommen voor grondaanvallen te vervoeren. De F-14 kwam in 1972 in dienst bij de Amerikaanse marine. De belangrijkste gebruiker was de Verenigde Staten. In 1976 werden 79 vliegtuigen naar Iran geëxporteerd, waarvan er nu nog enkele in dienst zijn. Het toestel werd officieel uit dienst genomen op 22 september 2006. De F-14 TOMCAT straaljager werd niet alleen beroemd door zijn verbazingwekkende uiterlijk, variabele vleugelgeometrie, maar ook door zijn deelname aan de nu al iconische film TOP GUN uit 1986.
