England is so incredibly rich in heritage and scenic attractions that it is extremely difficult to portray the country as a map of the entire entity. As a result, England lends itself nicely to be divided into a central/northern portion and a southern portion. To fit areas as diverse as Cornwall and Norwich on one sheet, one needs to have a vertical frame, with Devon/Cornwall up to the top of Wales on one side and Wiltshire to Kent up to York (admittedly, not normally considered to be part of 'southern', but vertically, that's what happens. This is the most densely-populated part of Australia, stretching from Lismore in the northeast to the Tasman Sea in the south. It includes all of New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria State, with South Australia as far west as Adelaide. It also shows Tasmania, Australia’s only island state, in good detail, as well as Flinders Island and King Island. The map includes two very large inset maps of Melbourne and of Sydney. This map covers the travel plans of 90% of the visitors travelling around Australia, a continental country that is very difficult to see all of in one trip.     The recent 'jasmine revolution' brings real-life reality very close to our consciousness. It is fitting that a new map of Tunisia is coming out just at this momentous time of the country's long history, as the country has long been seen as a small but stable fortress in the sea of shifting sand known as North Africa. Having visited the country, the publishers wish its inhabitants well as they undertake the next leg of their political development, and hope that the 'revolution' won't be hijacked by extremist elements. This map benefits from the research the publishers were able to carry out during their recent visit to Tunisia. They were able to confirm a lot of road information, and improve the information on this map. The map also now includes several text blocks called capsule comments, describing in words certain brief facts about points of interest in the country.  The north coast of Africa is also the southern edge of Roman Africa, and the best-preserved ruins are in Libya, which …

    Australia is a very large country. It is also very unevenly populated, with most of the people living close to the eastern coast. Brisbane is the second-largest city in Australia, and the preferred landing spot for most international flights. This makes Brisbane an attractive point of entry to Australia for visitors. The city has several attractions, which are noted on the map, several transit lines, also noted, and an interesting ferry boat system along the Brisbane River. The city is also the capital of Queensland, which occupies the north-east quarter of the continent and fills the second side of the map. Our map of the state stretches from the northern tip of Cape York to beyond the southern boundary of the state to just south of Sydney, in New South Wales. An inset map of central Sydney is included, but the strength of the map is the fact that Queensland is covered in excellent detail.     This is a new title for ITMB, in that it is the first time we have mapped the State of Washington. The actual area of the map includes Portland and northern Oregon and Vancouver and the border area with the USA. A small portion of Idaho is also shown. Wilderness campsites, parks such as Rainier, Olympic, and Baker, are shown. Seattle as a city, stretches far beyond the confines of a practical map in that it stretches from Everett to Tacoma. Our map covers from the University in the north to the Beacon Hill neighbourhood in the south and from the waterfront to Lake Washington. An inset map of the greater region is included. The rapid transit line is also included on the map and on the back cover. The reverse side of the sheet shows all the roads of Washington State in excellent Olympic, and Baker, state parks, touristic sites, beaches, ferry routes, native reserves, motorways, and even the ill-fated Hanford nuclear site are included. The islands of the Seychelles are too widely-spaced to portray except by as a series of ten insets. The main island is Mahe, which also houses the capital of Victoria (inset provided) and numerous resorts. Many of the islands have French names, reflecting the colonial to-and-fro that typified relations between Britain and France. Praslin, Curiuse, Falicite, La Digue, and Desroches are not names that bring immediate recognition, but they are the names of islands belonging to the Seychelles.     As technology improves, we are able to produce more detailed maps than was previously possible. Such is the case with Ireland, a part of the world consisting of two countries divided by religion and history. Preparing a map of Ireland as a double-sided map means cutting the island into two geographic portions. Side 1 covers the northern half. This includes the portion known as Northern Ireland, or Ulster, and a fair portion of the Republic of Ireland, or Eire; essentially everything north of Dublin and west to Counties Mayo and Galway. Side 2 covers the southern half of the island from just north of Dublin to the outer tips of County Kerry. It also includes a nice inset map of central Dublin. Naturally, all motorways and roads are included, as are touristic attractions, camping/caravan sites, ferry terminals, and Top Attractions. This is a very detailed travel map of the island, printed on waterproof paper for durability. We had great fun driving around Ireland researching this map. It…

    Great Britain, by its shape, is difficult to map. The population is dense, the road network intense, and the coastline convoluted. A map of the British Isles shows only the major features. Sectional maps of just England, or Just Wales, make little sense, due to the geographic shape of the island kingdom. Scotland also needs more than one map to show its treasures in sufficient detail. ITMB previously issued Scotland Central and South, and now extends its coverage at 1:300,000 to the sparsely-populated highlands and the isolated Western, Orkney, and Shetland island archipelagos that are usually shrunk to insignificance on most maps, as insets. This double-sided map covers the area from Loch Lochy south of Invergarry to John O’Groats in the north, and from the Western islands of Uist and Lewis to the Moray Firth and Craigellachie in the east. Cardiff is the capital of Wales, and is also an international access point to the UK; a map seems desirable. The city is based at the mouth of the River Taff, with most touristic points being concentrated in the harbour area, the city centre, and a concentration of eateries along Albany Road. Cardiff is shaped by two parallel motorways; the A4232close to the waterfront, and the A48 near the northern extremities. Both are included in our map, which also shows historic sites, hotels, and tourist amenities. The reverse side shows all of Wales as an entity, showing roads, rail lines, ferry crossing points, and access routes to England. It also shows historic sites, tourist attractions, parks, airports, ferry terminals, and all the towns and villages.
