Jean-Marie Bytebier. Rendez-vous (Paperback)
Jean-Marie Bytebier. Rendez-vous (Paperback)
Rendez-vous is the encounter between Belgian artist Jean-Marie Bytebier and Fontevraud. It's also the public's encounter with his work, presented in two distinct locations: within the permanent collections of the Fontevraud Museum of Modern Art and in the village's former presbytery. The artist has been offered two different exhibition spaces in which to install his works -one a museum with its contemporary exhibition display, the other a domestic setting with 18th-century wood paneling. Some of these works were specially created during an artistic residency at Fontevraud in December 2023, where he was able to immerse himself in the premises, the architecture, and the surrounding nature. Jean-Marie Bytebier (b.1963), lives and works in Mariakerke, Belgium. This book was published alongside the exhibition Rendez-vous at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Fontevraud-Collections Nationales Martine et Léon Cligman, from 23 March to 30 June 2024.

Max Pinckers (Paperback)
Max Pinckers (Paperback)
This trilingual book marks the culmination of ten years of collaboration between the photographer Max Pinckers and the writer Hans Theys, who was given permission to use a personal selection from all of Pinckers' photographs to create a classic photo book without having to take into account their original context. The publication also contains an essay in which Theys discusses Pinckers' oeuvre based on thoughts by Susan Sontag. The book is published to accompany a solo exhibition in the Photo Museum of Antwerp in November 2021.Max Pinckers (b. 1988) is a Belgian artist/photographer. In his work he explores the critical, technological and ideological structures which underpin the creation and consumption of documentary images. For Pinckers, creating a documentary is a speculative process in which reality and truth can be used as multiple and mouldable concepts. He has received several international prizes, including the Prix Levallois, the Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg and the Leica

Cultures of Stone (Paperback)
Cultures of Stone (Paperback)
This volume establishes a rich cross-disciplinary dialogue about the significance of stone in society across time and space. The material properties of stone have ensured its continuing importance; however, it is its materiality which has mediated the relations between the individual, society and stone. Bound up with the physical properties of stone are ideas on identity, value, and understanding. Stone can act as a medium through which these concepts are expressed and is tied to ideas such as monumentality and remembrance; its enduring character creating a link through generations to both people and place. This volume brings together a collection of seventeen papers which draw on a range of diverse disciplines and approaches; including archaeology, anthropology, classics, design and engineering, fine arts, geography, history, linguistics, philosophy, psychology and sciences. Contents: List of Figures Contributors Acknowledgements Introduction: Constructing Identities through Stone

Radicale24 (Paperback)
Radicale24 (Paperback)
This book celebrates Radicale1924, a contemporary art residency founded in 2020 by Belgian choreographer Chantal Yzermans. Located in the picturesque village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie in the Lot Valley in the south of France, the residency welcomed artists, researchers, and creators from 2021 to 2024 to live and work in the historic Maison Routier. Carrying forward the village's historical tradition as an artistic haven-once home to André and Elisa Breton and a circle of renowned surrealists in the 1950s-Radicale1924 became a dynamic site of creative exchange. Over four years, it hosted influential figures including Georges Adagio, Shulea Cheang, Ria Pacquée, Luc Deleu, Mikes Poppe, A.L. Steiner & Guillaume Bijl. The residency culminated in 2024 with a landmark exhibition at the Maison André Breton, coinciding with the centenary of the first Surrealist Manifesto-an evocative nod to the movement's history in the village and enduring spirit. This publication brings together original

Superdiversity in the heart of Europe (Paperback)
Superdiversity in the heart of Europe (Paperback)
The 21st century will be the century of superdiversity. Ethnic-cultural diversity in Europe continues to grow, even though governments try to limit further migration with a series of short-sighted measures. In Brussels, the capital city of Belgium and Europe, two out of every three residents has a migration background. Within a matter of years, Antwerp will also become a majority-minority city, as will many other European cities. How will superdiversity change our society? How can we all manage to live together in superdiversity? This book wants to redefine the deadlocked ideological debate about the desirability (or otherwise) of a multicultural society. In the 21st century, it is no longer a question of 'whether' we want such a society or not, but a question of 'how' we can deal with a superdiverse reality that is already upon us. How can we make best use of the potential inherent in this superdiversity and how can we avoid the pitfalls it entails? Superdiversity in the heart of

The Governance of Privacy (Paperback)
The Governance of Privacy (Paperback)
We can hardly underestimate the importance of privacy in our data-driven world. Privacy breaches are not just about disclosing information. Personal data is used to profile and manipulate us - sometimes on such a large scale that it affects society as a whole. What can governments do to protect our privacy? In 'The Governance of Privacy' Hans de Bruijn first analyses the complexity of the governance challenge, using the metaphor of a journey. At the start, users have strong incentives to share data. Harvested data continue the journey that might lead to a privacy breach, but not necessarily - it can also lead to highly valued services. That is why both preparedness at the start of the journey and resilience during the journey are crucial to privacy protection. The book then explores three strategies to deal with governments, the market, and society. Governments can use the power of the law; they can exploit the power of the market by stimulating companies to compete on privacy; and

Koen van den Broek, firminy (Paperback)
Koen van den Broek, firminy (Paperback)
The mini catalogue Firminy gathers 11 paintings on paper and an in situ installation by Koen Van den Broek, made for his eponymous solo exhibition at the Regent-Reychler gallery in Saignon, in the south of France. The paintings, that belong to a larger group of similar works on paper, are inspired by the Saint-Pierre church in Firminy designed by Le Corbusier, and carry the same spirit as the building in terms of light, volume and linearity. These works reveal the interesting and direct relation between architecture and the practice of van den Broek, who originally started an education as architect before studying visual arts. The in situ installation in the gallery is a permanent intervention and a life scale interpretation of two paintings, one by the artist himself and one by Henri Matisse, who had a direct relation to the environment of the south of France.

Technology and Society: (Paperback)
Technology and Society: (Paperback)
This book approaches various challenges that recent technological developments pose for legal systems. Aiming to bridge the gap between different fields of law, but also between linguistic and national borders, it offers multilingual and intradisciplinary contributions reflecting on Technology and Society. As technology increasingly permeates our daily lives, reflecting on the impact it has on society and therefore also on the law, becomes ever more pressing. The present book is the outcome of the 9th Assistentenconferentie/Conférence des assistants (ACCA) held in September 2020 in Leuven, Belgium. Marie Bourguignon is a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Public Law (KU Leuven). Her research focuses on access to law and more specifically on the translating role of judicial actors. Productomschrijving

Published with an exhibition at Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, 'Abrasive Paradise' features 24 artists who examine the current state of our society. Modernism in the 20th century dreamed of achieving a vision of a makeable society, an “earthly paradise”. Now we are facing a world full of lurking dangers and hidden disasters due to climate change, the direct result of humans' invasive behaviour in the natural order. Through installations and paintings - including works by LOLA Landscape Architects, Philip Vermeulen, Simphiwe Ndzube, Hadassah Emmerich, Marcel Pinas, Marina Rheingantz, and Erwin Olaf - the exhibition lends a physical character to this experience.
