Reisverhaal The Rule of the Land | Faber & Faber
In the wake of the EU referendum, the United Kingdom’s border with Ireland has gained greater significance: it is set to become the frontier with the European Union.   To uncover its secret landscape, with a troubled past and an uncertain future, Garrett Carr travelled Ireland’s border on foot and by canoe. This invisible line has hosted smugglers and kings, runaways, peacemakers, protestors and terrorists, revealing the tumult of a border, changing the way we look at nationhood, land and power. From encounters with border dwellers to uncovering rituals, hidden pathways and ancient monuments, this book presents the borderland as a unique realm of its own, and asks what it holds for the future.   Garrett Carr, map-maker and writer, was born in Donegal in 1975. He has previously published three Young Adult novels. A lecturer in Creative Writing at Queen's University, he lives in Belfast with his family.

Reisverhaal Call of the Kingfisher | Nick Penny
Reisverhaal Call of the Kingfisher | Nick Penny
Call of the Kingfisher is the enchanting debut from composer and wildlife recordist, Nick Penny. This love letter to a short stretch of Northamptonshire's River Nene celebrates all the wild things that live there, especially the kingfishers. Uniquely, it comes with bonus audio content to complement the text, accessed via QR codes. For four decades, Penny has walked beside the river at Oundle - a lovely but little-known part of England where where Clark Gable and thousands of American airmen were stationed during World War II, and where bandleader Glenn Miller performed his final airfield concert before going missing in action. For a whole year, Penny gave the waterway all the time it asked for. The more attention he gave, the more he saw the kingfishers and heard their high whistling calls. Call of the Kingfisher relates a year by the river, the author's experiences there and the people he meets. Other strands weave around the feathered protagonist: explorations of history and landscap…

The Ministry of Time
The Ministry of Time
A 2024 literary highlight in the Sunday Times, Grazia, Dazed, Sunday Express, GQ, i-D, Stylist, Bookseller and Literary Friction 'Holy smokes this novel is an absolute cut above! Exciting, surprising, intellectually provocative, weird, radical, tender and moving. I missed it when I was away from it. I will hurry to re-read it. Make room on your bookshelves for a new classic' MAX PORTER, AUTHOR OF SHY 'An outrageously brilliant debut . . . This is already the best new book I will have read next year' ELEANOR CATTON, AUTHOR OF BIRNAM WOOD 'Hugely enjoyable . . . Your next crush is a long dead Arctic explorer'' JOANNA QUINN, AUTHOR OF THE WHALEBONE THEATRE 'Kaliane Bradley writes with the maximalist confidence of P. G. Wodehouse, but also with the page-turning pining of Sally Rooney. It's thought-provoking and horribly clever - but it also made me laugh out loud' ALICE WINN, AUTHOR OF IN MEMORIAM 'A fantastic debut: conceptually brilliant, really funny, genuinely moving, written in t…

Reisverhaal Yemen - Travels in Dictionary Land | Mackintosh-Smith
Reisverhaal Yemen - Travels in Dictionary Land | Mackintosh-Smith
Our ideas of the Arabian Peninusula have been hijacked: by images of the desert, by oil, by the Gulf War. But there is another Arabia. For the Classical geographers Yemen was a fabulous land where flying serpents guarded sacred incense groves. Medieval Arab visitors told of disappearing islands and menstruating mountains. Vita Sackville-West found Aden 'precisely the most repulsive corner of the world'. Arguably the most fascinating but least known country in the Arab world, Yemen has a way of attracting comment that ranges from the superficial to the wildly fictitious. In Yemen: Travels in Dictionary Land, Tim Mackintosh-Smith writes with an intimacy and depth of knowledge gained through over twenty years among the Yemenis. He is a travelling companion of the best sort - erudite, witty and eccentric. Crossing mountain, desert, ocean and three millennia of history, he portrays hyrax hunters and dhow skippers, a noseless regicide, and a sword-wielding tyrant with a passion for Heinz Rus…

Back to the Future II Art Scale Statues 1/10 Full Set Deluxe 58 cm
The young Marty McFly and his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, newly arrived in the hypothetical future year of 2015, wear special futuristic outfits to go unnoticed. They plan their next steps alongside their time-shifting vehicle, the iconic Delorean Time Machine, which floats over the base of a street in the town of Hill Valley in the future. The vehicle was faithfully replicated with all the details of the original one, with cables, wires, and gadgets, full of internal and external lights, and even with the so-called Mr. Fusion, which produces fuel from waste (preferably organic). With a light in its unmistakable flux capacitor, wheels raised in flight position, the vehicle is supported by a side rod, similar to the one used in the movie scene. Last but not least, the open seagull door, which reveals the interior of the Delorean and the circuit of time. The material used for the production of the vehicle was, for the most part, resin, with a minimum of plastic parts used in its composition…

Reisverhaal Dreaming of Jupiter | Ted Simon
Reisverhaal Dreaming of Jupiter | Ted Simon
Ted Simon is the author of the classic travel book JUPITER'S TRAVELS. It documents his four-year journey round the world by motorbike, travelling through Europe, Africa, South and North America, and Asia. A number one bestseller in the late 1970s, it is still regarded as one of the greatest motorcycle books - indeed, one of the greatest travel books - ever written. In 2001, at the age of 69, Ted Simon decided to retrace his journey, and DREAMING OF JUPITER is the result. It took him two and a half years - during which time he revisited all the countries he had travelled through in the 1970s. He found much had changed, and he reflects upon the increased poverty, political upheavals, environmental issues and indeed the changes in himself. But ultimately, DREAMING OF JUPITER is a hugely inspiring read with a positive message at its heart - that even at the age of 70 you can still set off on an adventure, and be surprised and excited by what life throws at you along the way. *'Gloriously l…
