Jan Bommerson (1950) was docent Nederlands, trad op als cabaretier met ‘Jank’ en ‘Martin, Ton en Bommerson’ en als presentator van theater- en smartlappenavonden. Hij publiceerde gedichten en won er in Nederland en België prijzen mee. Hij reist graag naar noordelijke streken, fotografeert er en schrijft erover. In de zomer van 1979 reist hij naar de Noordkaap in Noorwegen en weer terug. Hij legde zijn ervaringen vast in enkele ‘zonderbare verhalen’ die werden gebundeld in ‘NOORS’, over een tot mislukken gedoemde reis door Noorwegen. Zijn tweede boek heet ‘De ontdekking van Shetland’. In dit boek vertelt hij het verhaal over zijn reizen naar de Shetlandeilanden in de jaren zeventig van de vorige eeuw. De Shetlandeilanden liggen een paar honderd kilometer ten noorden van Schotland.
