    Matata (which means “trouble” in Swahili) was an African funk band who took nightclubs by storm and jammed with some of the biggest giants in soul, jazz and Latin music. The band had its roots in the Congo although it formed in Kenya in the mid-sixties. Matata was based around the famous 'Starlight Club' in Nairobi. The group retained elements of traditional music by incorporating instruments such as the 'ngoma' (a large drum) and an eight stringed guitar-harp called the 'nyatiti'…this brought something different to their style and made for a unique sound. Each of the songwriters sang lead in their native tongues and this meant they used vocals in three African languages (next to the songs sung in English). In fact it preserves little traces of the past, and paradoxically the remains from the prehistoric age are more meaningful than those back to more recent times. We can find traces from the most remote past not far from the State Road SS125, that from Muravera goes to Costa Rei, by visiting the nuraghe Murtas, the nuraghe S’Aqua Secis and the megalithic complexes of Scalas and Cuili Piras. They are about ten menhirs, almost fully intact, arranged in groups and fixed in the ground in the original orthostatic position. They have been put in relation with the position of the sun and the moon, at dawn and at sunset. In fact they were used as a very precise astronomic calendar but also for religious purposes since they represented both the masculine divinity and the fertility according to the worsh…

It's September 1981 and it's matter of weeks away from the release of I'm A Rainbow, the second album Donna Summer had recorded for Geffen Records, which had been produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. At the time that the album was being recorded, the musical landscape had changed and production techniques were developing further. Geffen also wanted a more R&B-influenced album, despite the album having a more R&B feel than The Wanderer had done. The songs and their lyrical content were very strong and Donna's voice had never sounded better, which was always a tough comparison against previous albums. A decision was taken by the label to withdraw I'm A Rainbow just prior to it's release. David Geffen then brought-in Quincy Jones to produce the next new album 1982's Donna Summer.
