Laozi schreef 2500 jaar geleden een van de mooiste en meest mystieke boeken uit de wereldliteratuur. Er zijn talloze vertalingen van, die onderling sterk verschillen. De oude Chinese karakters zijn multi-interpretabel; het is vaak niet te zien of een karakter een werkwoord, een zelfstandig- of een bijvoeglijk naamwoord is.
