Johan De Wilde. Hands of time (Paperback)
Five years on and the acclaimed Hands of Time has a sequel entitled Hands of Time - Plein été. The second part is an overview of drawings and other works from the period 2012 to 2017 and follows on seamlessly from the first. Johan De Wilde's work seems if ever that is possible, to have become even more intense and his drawing style to explore new layers. The drawings can be seen as the work of a human printer (man created the computer in his own image). They are built up like paintings: a labor-intensive process, layer upon layer of horizontal and vertical lines interwoven with a form, a figure. It is as if he is drawing the canvas on which he paints with his pencils. Johan De Wilde draws real-time on a scale of 1:1. While his and our time slip by, lines appear, which is another reason why almost every drawing is given the title History + a number. Vita brevis, ars longa.

Practices of Drawing (Paperback)
Practices of Drawing (Paperback)
For Dutch see below. -ENGLISH- It is hard to overstate the importance of drawing for architectural practice. Ever since antiquity, architects have relied on drawings to conceptualize ideas, provide instructions for workers and construct their ideas into architecture. This involvement with drawing has always been mediated through different technologies; drawing is technology. The specific practices of drawing have changed over time, however, adapting to changing technologies. In doing so they have altered the production of architecture. This issue of OASE looks at architectural drawings as dynamic processes that shape architectural thinking. To give insight into the relation between the tools and techniques for drawing, and the resulting architectural production and construction, OASE 105 draws from case studies that range from early sections in antiquity, the experimentation with drawing techniques on medieval construction sites, the automatization of orthographic drawing in the early

OASE 107 (Paperback)
OASE 107 (Paperback)
For Dutch see below - English - In recent decades, the drawing practices in landscape design and urbanism have seen a number of transformations. Current developments in theory and practice have rendered the distinction between the two more diffuse. Both disciplines are no longer regarded as architecture - or gardening - 'on a larger scale', primarily anchored in questions of housing, land development or embellishment. Today ecology, energy transition or 'metabolic' issues are much more present, which leads to new forms of drawing. Leaving an object-oriented thinking behind, both disciplines seem to be convinced of the importance of the process and the impact of the factor of time. Space has become understood as an intersection - a 'coagulation' - of a multiplicity of flows and processes. For designers it is an essential question how all these flows and processes come together, materialize, and become visible, and how their 'spatialization' in drawings is represented in analysis and

In the shadow of Vesalius (Paperback)
In the shadow of Vesalius (Paperback)
The 16th century was revolutionized by scientific and artistic novelties, not the least in the anatomical and medical world. In this richly illustrated book a multitude of academic scholars present new findings concerning Vesalius and his contemporaries. One of those discoveries includes a preparatory sketch by Jan Steven van Calcar for a drawing in Vesalius' famous 'Fabrica', called 'The Philosopher'. Also authentic letters, written by Vesalius to his friends Benedetto Varchi and Ottavio Landi, are presented and translated for the first time, and are thoroughly discussed, shedding new light on crucial periods of Vesalius' life, such as his leave from academic Padua, exchanged for imperial service to Charles V, or his contribution to the treatment of Philips II's son, crown prince Carlos in Spain. Anatomical novelties, discovered by Vesalius' friends and contemporaries, are equally broadly exposed, like Canani's input in human arm musculature or Valverde's 'corrections' of Vesalius'

You Know I Am Not There (Paperback)
You Know I Am Not There (Paperback)
You Know I Am Not There is a line from the song Know by English singer-songwriter Nick Drake. He was well-known to a small circle of fans in his time and died in 1974 at the young age of 26. Now, Drake has achieved true cult status and is seen as one of the most important singer-songwriters of the twentieth century. The melancholy of his songs, his premature death and the very rare image and sound material gives his fans plenty of space to imagine the personality of Drake for themselves. Visual artist Danielle Lemaire traced his footsteps, immersed herself in his mystical view of the world, and sought contact with 'Drakeheads', resulting in a series of drawings. In her work she plays a sophisticated riff on presence and absence, on truth and fantasy.

Wild Harmony (Paperback)
Wild Harmony (Paperback)
The gardens of Pieter Croes and Bart Haverkamp are intuitive and organic, just like their career. They rolled into garden design intuitively about thirty years ago, navigating an organic career path. By focussing on sustainability and trusting their ideas, that were spontaneously inspired by the environment and circumstances, Bart and Pieter have cultivated a recognisable and much sought-after style. To some their work may feel rebellious; to them it comes naturally. More than anything else, they like to create green oases in the city, with various plants, flowing lines, and natural materials. Letting nature take its course, untamed, thanks to well-thought-through choices and drawing on three decades of experience. For this book, they curated a selection of garden designs that they realised in recent years - inspiring examples of wild harmony, Bart and Pieter's trademark style. Their mission is to counterbalance the fast pace and concrete of city life by creating space for nature and
