They study a variety of topics in economic, military, political, social and cultural history, and the history of tourism, from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century. Several papers discuss aspects of Zeeland's past from the perspective of the history of knowledge and information. The papers were written and edited by students at University College Roosevelt (UCR), the international honors college of Utrecht University in Middelburg. The collection marks the end of the Chair in the History of Zeeland in the World, established at Utrecht University between 2013 and 2023 by the Familiefonds Hurgronje to study the history of Zeeland at UCR.
