Silence of the Tides is een boek over de gelijknamige poëtische film van regisseur Pieter-Rim de Kroon waarin de continue 'ademhaling' van het Waddengebied centraal staat. Een film over de kwetsbare relatie tussen mens en natuur. Over getijden, cycli en contrasten. Tegen een decor van mist, wind, water, het constant veranderend licht en de altijd aanwezige horizon. Dit boek laat zich als een film bekijken en neemt je mee naar de magische wereld van het internationale Waddengebied dat zich uitstrekt over Nederland, Duitsland en Denemarken. Het unieke natuurgebied is een van de laatst overgebleven grootschalige, bij eb droogvallende, ecosystemen en prijkt sinds juni 2009 op de werelderfgoedlijst van Unesco. De lengte van de film is 102 minuten. Dat betekent dat er in de film in totaal 146.880 beeldjes (frames) zitten. De hogeresolutieframes in het boek zijn door regisseur De Kroon persoonlijk geselecteerd waarmee het begrip director's cut er een bijzondere dimensie bij krijgt.
