Floris Van Look. De goede richting (Paperback)
De Goede Richting (The Good Direction) is the first-ever monograph on Belgian artist Floris van Look (b. 1990), highlighting a body of work that blends figurative painting with humor, imagination, and profound reflections on the world around us. Known for his thickly layered oil and putty paintings, which verge on sculpture, Van Look offers a tactile, bodily experience that transcends traditional painting. Inspired by everyday encounters, literature, and mythology, he creates surreal worlds where the familiar is reimagined through a lens of fantasy, blending the ordinary with the extraordinary. This monograph is both an exploration of Van Look's artistic journey and a work of art in itself. With contributions from Herman Brusselmans and Lauren Wiggers, and a look into the artist's creative process through sketchbooks and preparatory works, it provides a deeper understanding of his techniques, inspirations, and the evolving nature of his practice. De Goede Richting is a testament to an

Magritte (Paperback)
Magritte (Paperback)
René Magritte. Attempting the Impossible contains more than 300 works and also a lot of unpublished material. Each chapter considers extensively a key work and depicts the intellectual and historical context that lead to the creation of both that work and the related paintings and drawings. 'As a result, this monograph is required reading for anyone seeking an initiation into the understanding of Magritte. The abundant and original iconography is echoed in the arrangement of a text that, from chapter to chapter, sheds light on the work. The thematic approach makes it possible to deal with specific questions while sticking close to the works themselves' (Michel Draguet, General Director of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium). SIEGFRIED GOHR was born in 1949 and studied at Cologne and Tübingen. He was director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and lectured in art history at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. He currently has a chair at Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he is also

Renato Nicolodi. Ni Co Lo Di (Hardback)
Renato Nicolodi. Ni Co Lo Di (Hardback)
Renato Nicolodi seeks to evoke a universal sacrality in his work. His sculptures and paintings imagine spaces with corridors and stairs leading to closed-off passageways. Light and shade draw the gaze of the spectator to the inside of the construction, which remains invisible. The core of the work seems to conserve some sort of emptiness. The artist refers to archetypical buildings from past times and cultures, stripping them of their original function, ornament, and dogma. This special second-edition monograph showcases a comprehensive selection of Nicolodi's oeuvre, presenting his work in the most compelling way to date.

Johan De Wilde. Hands of time (Paperback)
Johan De Wilde. Hands of time (Paperback)
Five years on and the acclaimed Hands of Time has a sequel entitled Hands of Time - Plein été. The second part is an overview of drawings and other works from the period 2012 to 2017 and follows on seamlessly from the first. Johan De Wilde's work seems if ever that is possible, to have become even more intense and his drawing style to explore new layers. The drawings can be seen as the work of a human printer (man created the computer in his own image). They are built up like paintings: a labor-intensive process, layer upon layer of horizontal and vertical lines interwoven with a form, a figure. It is as if he is drawing the canvas on which he paints with his pencils. Johan De Wilde draws real-time on a scale of 1:1. While his and our time slip by, lines appear, which is another reason why almost every drawing is given the title History + a number. Vita brevis, ars longa.

Terrestrial Belts / Aardgordels - Karin van Dam (Paperback)
Terrestrial Belts / Aardgordels - Karin van Dam (Paperback)
A new monograph on the work of Dutch visual artist Karin van Dam (Eindhoven, 1959), with an essay by art critic, investigative journalist and curator Lucette ter Borg. 'My work is a travelogue that winds its way through the universe, the cosmos, to cities and landscapes. From the traces that appear close to our feet to the edges of our coastline. Constructions and forms unfold, reflected on both a macro and micro level in installations, sculptures and drawings. By chance, I come across my “building materials” such as found pipes, tubes, rubber and all kinds of recognisable items. Added to this are knitted items developed in the textile lab in Tilburg and in the studio. They form the palette for “temporary” installations that I realise in special places in museums, but also on the roofs of buildings or on the corner of a street.' - Karin van Dam Karin van Dam exhibited her work nationally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions at venues including the Karachi Biennale 19 /

Roelant Savery's - Wondrous world (Paperback)
Roelant Savery's - Wondrous world (Paperback)
Roelant Savery (1578-1639) was born in Kortrijk in the midst of the tumultuous Eighty Years' War. His family belonged to the large group of Flemings forced to flee to the Northern Netherlands (the present-day Netherlands) due to this conflict. In Amsterdam, Roelant was trained as a painter by his elder brother Jacob. In late 1603 or early 1604, he left for Prague to work for the Habsburg emperor Rudolf II, the greatest collector of his time. After the emperor's death, he returned to the Netherlands and settled in Utrecht. A trailblazer, Roelant Savery pioneered several new genres in Dutch painting. His artistic range was extensive, encompassing drawn and painted landscapes, flowers, animals, and people. He depicted flora and fauna, including numerous species imported to Europe from all over the world for the first time. The earliest flower still life in Dutch painting is by Savery. And, he also portrayed the legendary dodo, the extinct bird of the African island of Mauritius.

Caravaggio in detail (Paperback)
Caravaggio in detail (Paperback)
'Caravaggio in Detail' is the fourth title in the successful In Detail series, following Van Eyck, Bruegel and Bosch. The Italian genius Caravaggio is considered one of the most important artists of the Baroque era. The Italian master's painting style was groundbreaking, not only because of his unique treatment of light and shade, but above all for his unprecedented realism: instead of the customary idealised figures, he painted everyday, working-class people, even in religious scenes. This book explores Caravaggio's turbulent life and his equally dramatic work in a surprising way. The book is divided into themed chapters: Still Lifes, Hidden Self-Portraits and Stimulated Senses, and shows the paintings as never before, in full-page details.
