Hadrian's Cycleway is a 174 mile route from Ravenglass in Cumbria to South Shields. Also known as Route 72, this coast-to-coast route heads north up the Cumbrian coast to reach the Solway AONB before crossing northern England along Hadrian's Wall and into Northumberland. Suitable for cyclists of all abilities, the ride is usually completed over three days from west to east.   The route allows cyclists to explore Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, visiting Roman forts including Vindolanda and Housesteads as well as milecastles, abbeys and historic towns. Other highlights include the Cumbrian coast, Tyne Valley and the famous Sycamore Gap.   While the main route is described from west to east over three days, the guide provides plenty of information about other options. Sections with heavier traffic are rare and usually short. With only a few exceptions, the roads and paths have a hard surface. Gravel sections are usually in good condition. Because the route follows the course of the river, it is almost completely flat. It is mostly on the excursions into the surrounding countryside that must expect some steep sections. The fifth part of the Danube Bike Trail begins in Belgrade and ends in Romania on the Black Sea. With a total length of 2,845 kilometres, the Danube is Europe’s second longest river (after the Volga with 3,534 kilometres), and the only one on which kilometres are counted in reverse direction, starting with kilometer zero at the mouth and ending upstream at the source.   The total length of Part 5 of the Danube Bicycle Trail is about 1,400 kilometres. This does not include various side trips and alternative routes. Every year, thousands of cyclists explore the varied scenery which the route through Austria has to offer. For most cyclists the journey ends in the capital Vienna (Wien). But the continuation of the Danube Bike Trail through Slovakia and into Hungary, to the city of Budapest, is accordingly quieter and more idyllic. One can endulge the senses while cycling through riverside forests, quiet villages and historic towns where the Iron Curtain once divided Europe in two; all this while crossing two borders without even needing to present a passport.   The total length of the Danube Bike Trail from Vienna to Budapest is 310 kilometers. Goede kaarten met ingetekende route, ringband.De route voert langs de historische plekken die een grote rol hebben gespeeld in de opkomst, maar vooral in de ondergang van de Katharen. De noordelijke route doet vooral steden en dorpen aan, zoals Minerve, Carcassonne, Bram, Mirepoix en Foix. De zuidelijke route gaat langs de legendarische Katharenburchten als Peyrepertuse, Quéribus en Montségur. Vanaf Foix loopt de route zoveel mogelijk langs rivierdalen via o.a. Lourdes, door de Gascogne en het Franse Baskenland naar Biarritz. Pittige route! Kortom, geen route voor de ongetrainde fietser of gezin met kleine kinderen.
