Who is Master Splinter?Mature, serious, and defensive, Hamato Yoshi was born in Japan, where he became a martial arts instructor and leader of his ninja clan. His skills were only rivaled by his fellow student Oroku Saki, Yoshi's adopted brother, who came from one of the rival clans that had been eliminated, the Foot Clan. As a human, he was a great and powerful Ninjutsu master. He trained from a young age, mastering his abilities, with strength, agility, speed, and endurance beyond that of any athlete. In America, an accident with a substance called Mutagen transformed him into an anthropomorphic rat, and his pet turtles underwent the same mutation, gaining humanoid bodies and intelligence. He took the name Splinter and gave the turtles the names of Renaissance painters and sculptors from an art book, taking on the role of father and teacher to the four heroic turtles.
