    “Ik ben geobsedeerd door falen,” zegt Brian Dunne. “Het is zoveel interessanter voor mij dan succes, zoveel eerlijker en menselijker.”

    Op Loser On The Ropes, Brian Dunne's betoverende nieuwe album, verkent hij de donkere kanten van het bestaan. Het leven van losers en misfits. Dunne mag dan een singer-songwriter zijn in de puur technische zin van het woord, maar op dit album heeft hij meer gemeen met punkers en new wavers. Dat wil niet zeggen dat Loser On The Ropes een punkalbum is - het is misschien wel de mooiste en meest melodieuze plaat die Dunne ooit heeft gemaakt - maar eerder dat de songs recht op zijn doel afgaan. Het zijn sprekende nummers, gezongen met een stem die qua emotionele zeggingskracht hout snijdt. Verhalende liedjes ook waarin de zanger, die soms een kruising van Bruce Springsteen en Jackson Browne in herinnering roept, zichzelf niet spaart.
