Wandelgids - Reisgids The Mountain Hut Book | Cicerone
This book is a celebration of mountain huts, showcasing the the sheer variety and sometimes quirky nature of these buildings that allow walkers, trekkers and climbers to access remote corners of the mountains. Packed with entertaining stories that bring the places and people to life, it contains descriptions of the author's favourite huts in the Alps, along with suggestions for hut-to-hut tours of 3-13 days duration, including the Tour of Mont Blanc. It also traces the history of huts and how they have evolved from the most primitive of shelters to the often purpose-built, eco-friendly buildings of today. For the uninitiated, it unravels some of the mystery of huts and explains how to use them and what facilities to expect. Reisverhaal An Unexpected Light - Travels in Afghanistan | Jason Elliot
Reisverhaal An Unexpected Light - Travels in Afghanistan | Jason Elliot
An account of a trip through war-torn and poverty-stricken Afghanistan, this remarkable book could have been titled "An Unexpected Beauty." Elliot, who first traveled to the country as a 19-year-old enthusiast of the mujahedin, has no illusions about the inherent shortcomings of travel writing ("a semi-fictional collection of descriptions that affirm the prejudices of the day"). He also dismisses the journalistic method, which relies on a single bombed-out street in Kabul to monolithically represent an entire nation. So it is not without some self-deprecation that he offers his own strange and improbable adventures in the country's lawless stretches and perilous mountain passes. "I had in mind a quietly epic sort of journey," he explains. "I had given up on earlier and more ambitious schemes and was prepared to make an ally of uncertainty, with which luck so often finds a partnership." Humorous, honest and wry, a devotee of Afghanistan's culture, Elliot strives to debunk the myth of "…

Reisgids The Battles of Arras - north | Pen and Sword publications
The First World War battlefields to the north of Arras - including Vimy Ridge - are among the most famous and most visited sites on the Western Front, rivalled only by those around Ypres and the Somme, and this clearly written, highly illustrated guide is the ideal introduction to them. Reisverhaal Round Ireland with a Fridge | Tony Hawks
Reisverhaal Round Ireland with a Fridge | Tony Hawks
Hilarisch reisverslag van een voetreis met een koelkast door Ierland. On his only prior visit to Ireland, songwriter/comic Tony Hawks had seen a man hitchhiking with a refrigerator. For years, he was wont to tell the tale during late-night drinking matches, and after one particularly heavy-duty night of partying, he awoke to find a bet scrawled pillow-side: a friend wagered 100 pounds that Hawks wouldn't travel Ireland for a month with a refrigerator at his side. Out of this stupid premise, a ridiculously amusing book was born. Quickly discovered by the Irish media, the thumbing Englishman finds that he and his box fridge are elevated to celebrity status, and there's no dearth of rides, places to stay or goofy people to meet, from kings to spoons players to locals who take his fridge surfing. As insightful about the strange inner workings of Hawk's mind as it is about charming peculiarities of Irishmen--it's doubtful that Hawks would have been similarly embraced by Germans, Italians, …

Productomschrijving

Almost 13,000 years ago the earth was struck by a sudden, worldwide catastrophe. Giant mammals like the mammoth became extinct. Civilizations vanished, leaving only a few traces. The map of the world changed considerably. After a final convulsion the ice age definitely came to a close. The author presents a new and startling theory about the events that likely happened in those days, using elements of geology, archaeology, palaeontology, astronomy and mythology, which assent to his theory. These indications show that the earths crust shifted as a whole over a large distance within a very short time. The finds provide us with a delicate surprise that had not been detected before. Especially in our time of great changes, this book should be read. What is the connection to the Maya, who let their Long Count Calendar end at December 21st, 2012? To what were they referring? ` A hypothesis, made clear from the beginning of the book, is explained so well that it is difficult not to search for the truth independently. I can imagine that everything may have happened like this. The writer deserves a lot of thanks for this, as it is an art to implant a new idea into somebodys head. (J.M.) `This book provides a lot of interesting information that differs from existing theories. Science should seriously regard these ideas and not a priori ban different views. Some parts are hard to understand, but in this book clues are mentioned that cannot simply be pushed aside. (J.E.) `If one is interested in the genesis of the earth in its current shape, this is a very interesting book. Writer has been immersed in a lot of scientific studies on the subject and provides an original, clear and realistic vision. (T.S.V.)
