Blue Ice Metallic was a very rare custom colour from Fender, used in the mid 60's mainly for Telecaster and Jazzmaster guitars and for some Stratocasters. It's an ice- blue color but with the years the tone changes to greenish due to the yellowing of the aging of the nitrocellulose. Charcoal Frost was used on Lincoln Continentals from 1965 to 1966, and also on the 1965 Ford Thunderbird. Fender adopted it as custom colour in their catalog in 1965. As it ages it tends to fade to gray-green. Desert Sand is a very light, very unsaturated reddish yellow colour similar to the colour of sand. It can also be defined as a deep shade of beige. Desert Sand was used by General Motors as a paint color for their first Cadillacs. Fender started using it in the late 50's, especially on their Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic models. The Gibson Les Paul Standard guitar began production in 1958, at a time in American culture when custom color choices from major manufacturers in the auto industry were becoming very fashionable. This Oxford Gray colour shows one of those car colours. Although it wasn't used in the '50s and '60s, it is currently used for the Gibson Custom Shop instruments.
