Reisgids Hiroshima and Nagasaki | Odyssey
Reisgids Hiroshima and Nagasaki | Odyssey
Deze gids combineert geschiedenis, cultuur en reisinformatie in één. Voornamelijk geschikt als je meer te weten wilt komen over de rijke historie van deze twee steden. De reisinformatie beperkt zich tot ongeveer 40 pagina's.   An ambitious blend of history ancient and modern, literature and poetry, photography and art,... yet still also a travel guide: this is Odyssey's guide to the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, by Magnus Bartlett and Robert O'Connor. Released in 2015 to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings. A powerful and thought-provoking read that - as with all Odyssey Guides - will challenge, inform, and inspire visitors and armchair travellers.   On August 6, 1945 at precisely 8.15am, the world changed forever. An atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshim and another would drop on Nagasaki three days later: both cities – and their populations – were destroyed.   This unique and eclectic book takes the reader through seven centuries…

Images of the Indonesian War of Independence, 1945-1949/Perang Kemerdekaan Indonesia dalam Gambar/Be
Images of the Indonesian War of Independence, 1945-1949/Perang Kemerdekaan Indonesia dalam Gambar/Be
Four years of protracted negotiations and bitter warfare passed between the declaration of Indonesian independence on 17 August, 1945, and the official transfer of sovereignty on 27 December, 1949. Whereas the newly proclaimed Republic of Indonesia rejected the colonial regime and hence any attempt at 'recolonization' by the Dutch after the Japanese occupation (1942-1945), the Dutch framed their return to the archipelago as a mission to restore 'order and peace'. These wildly contrasting perspectives were visualized in propaganda posters, pamphlets and all kinds of printed materials. Many of these materials, alongside photographs and oral history collections, ended up in the collections of the KITLV and eventually the Leiden University Libraries. This trilingual (English, Dutch and Indonesian) catalogue accompanies a digital exhibition of some fifty unique items. The selection made demonstrates the sharply contrasting perspectives on the legitimacy of the Republic and Dutch

Woodrow Wilson and the World War (Paperback)
Woodrow Wilson and the World War (Paperback)
Because it was written right after the “Great War” [Woodrow Wilson and the World War] is a fantastic historical image of how contemporaries viewed the war, its causes, results, and how Woodrow Wilson managed and used it to further his ideological goal of Collective Security. It really is a great contemporary look of the situations surrounding the United States and World War I. Charles Seymour was an American academic, historian and President of Yale University from 1937 to 1951. As an academic administrator, he was instrumental in establishing Yale's residential college system. His writing focused on the diplomatic history of World War I.
